4K Race refueled+ (2068) ======================== Version 2.10 (beta) A minigame for the TS/TC2068. Graphically enhanced version of 4K Race refueled, (4k minigame for the Spectrum 128k, entry for the 2005 Minigame Compo (http://www.ffd2.com/minigame/) ) CREDITS Code and manual: Paolo Ferraris (pieffe8.at.libero.it) Graphics: Luciano Costarelli Engine sound idea: Mario "Chrome" Prato Thanks to the Italian Zx Spectrum mailing list for testing and suggestions on the original 4K Race Thanks to people from the TS2068 mailing list for information on the TS2068. NEED HELP! I (Paolo) need feedback from people that can try the software on the real machine. The game has been tested on the TS2068 and on emulators of this computer. It should work on the TC2068 also, but I don't have that computer to try it. Also, I don't have joysticks, so I don't know if joystick controls work. I noticed on my TS2068 that the engine sound is very low. Is it that just a problem of my computer? The Spectrum version doesn't have this problem. LOADING INSTRUCTIONS Remove the Spectrum emulator and any additional hardware that may move the starting point of BASIC programs. Just type LOAD "" (J, SYMBL+P,SYMBL+P) followed by ENTER. GAME DESCRIPTION As the title suggests, this is a racing game, similar to (oh well...) Outrun and Super Hang-On. The goal of the game is to reach the end of the track in the given time avoiding all the other cars. Checkpoints - there are 6 along the track - give you extra seconds. Time over = game over. At every game the track is different. Controls: Q = accelerate A = brakes O = turn left P = turn right or Joystick port 1. The upper part of the screen shows the score and high score, the part of the track in which you are, the time left, and the speed. I hope you will enjoy this minigame. I have spent a lot of hours on it. Comments and suggestions are welcome. DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND 4k Race was a Spectrum 128k game that won the 2004 minigame compo (http://www.ffd2.com/minigame/) among the games whose size (code+graphics) is not greater than 4096 bytes. A TS/TC 2068 version was developed and worked on emulators. Unfortunately, no real machine was available for testing, and it was impossible to check why the game wasn't working (as reported by some people) on the real machine. So the TS/TC 2068 version was abandoned. Meanwhile, a full 128k version of 4k race was under development. A relevant improvement to the prospective was made. The game was reduced again to 4096 bytes are resubmitted as "4k race refueled" to the minigame compo in 2005, where it won again. Now I (Paolo) have a TS2068 so I am finally able to port the game to that computer, with the addition of graphics that was not included in the 4k version for space reasons.
