Bomb Jack Editor ---------------- Written for Paul Johns aka psj3809 October 2005. Inspired by his thread at World Of Spectrum http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=5258&forum=2 For use with MULTIFACE 128 by Romantic Robot Works in conjunction with Elite Systems Ltd. 'Bomb Jack' and ZX Spectrum 48k. If your emulator supports Multiface you must select it. For example, on Spin emulator you must check the box at... Tools>Options>Peripherals>Multiface If you don't have the ROM for the Multiface(mf128.rom) you can find it at Philip Kendall's 'The Spectrum ROMs collection' site. http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~pak21/spectrum/roms.pl and this must be placed along with your other ROMs. Some emus such as Spectaculator already contain the mf128.rom Instructions for use -------------------- Rules for a successful load on Spin emulator -------------------------------------------- Load the tape and you will eventually see the face of a very handsome looking chap along with the message 'Enable Multiface - Press Any key' DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY YET! At this point enable the Multiface (F5 on Spin). Once enabled press 'R' to exit Multiface and *NOW* press any key to reset the Spectrum. You can now load your copy of Bomb Jack in the normal fashion. Once Bomb Jack is loaded, you can activate the Editor by initiating the Multiface (F5 on Spin). Using The Editor ---------------- Please START the editor from the MAIN MENU of Bomb Jack ie. where you select keyboard etc. Once changes have been made simply RETURN to Bomb Jack proper (ie. exit the editor from the VIEW mode screen), check it, then SAVE a SNAPSHOT of your work. Keys:- ------ On the MAIN MENU (first screen you see) you will start in VIEW mode. In VIEW mode you can press :- S - Scrolls through the Backgrounds. D - Scroll through the Bomb/Pipe Data ie. level X - from the MAIN MENU this will return you back to Bomb Jack proper. - You can also press BREAK (Caps Shift/Space) for the same result. M - Switch to Edit Mode. When you have selected a level/screen to work on, pressing M then gives you further options. In EDIT mode you can press :- Q - Returns you to the MAIN MENU B - Edit Bombs P - Edit Pipes N - Edit Enemy Data (Spawn Points and Enemy Type) When editing Bombs/Pipes you can press :- Q - Move Up A - Move Down O - Move left P - Move Right M - Select (Pick up/Drop) R - When editing Bombs or Pipes you can Renew (Restore) the data to its original status (or since last alteration) (Not available in NME mode) X - Exit - Return to the MAIN MENU. - You can also press BREAK (Caps Shift/Space) for the same result Bomb Editing ------------ Move the flashing cursor around the grid using Q,A,O,P. Move over a bomb you'd like to move and press M to PICK IT UP. #Note:- When you move over a bomb, the fizz number is displayed to help you. Now move the bomb to where you would like it to go and press M again to DROP IT. When happy with your new pattern simply press X or BREAK to exit Bomb Editing. Pipe Editing (Platforms) ------------------------ Move the flashing cursor around the screen using Q,A,O,P. On the right hand side you will see 'Pfm:--' (Platform) which means that no pipe is currently selected. To select a pipe you must move over the LEFT HAND SIDE of a horizontal pipe or TOP of a vertical pipe to register. When a pipe has registered you will see the number of the pipe displayed on the right ie. 'Pfm:02' When a pipe has registered you can now press M to PICK IT UP. Now move the pipe to where you would like it to go and press M again to DROP IT. #Note:- Whilst a pipe is picked up you have the following options:- Q,A,O,P - Move it around. F - Rotate Pipe (Horizontal/Vertical) W - Increase Pipe Length (subject to limits) S - Decrease Pipe Length (subject to limits) E - Change LEFT (Top if vertical) pipe end. D - Change RIGHT (Bottom if vertical) pipe end When happy with your new pattern simply press X or BREAK to exit Pipe Editing. #Note:- ILLEGAL MOVES ARE NOT ALLOWED. If for example you are trying to rotate a pipe to a position I consider illegal (Example: trying to place a long horizontal pipe close to the right hand edge) then NOTHING will happen. If you press a key and nothing happens then try something else as the move is most likely not acceptable. #Note:- TOUCHING PIPES When moving a pipe and you pass over a pipe that is numbered LESS than the pipe you are holding, control will pass to the lower numbered pipe. This is by design. To eliminate this happening, firstly move the lower numbered pipe out of the way, then place the higher numbered pipe to where you want it and finally retrieve the lower numbered pipe. #Hint:- Reduce the amount of pipes on a screen by placing them on top of one another Edit NME start positions ------------------------ Simply use Q,A,O,P to move the PIXEL :) where you want an enemy to appear and then press M. Edit NME spawns --------------- Follow the simple on screen instructions.
