Embassy Assault (Sinclair Research Ltd) G20/S Embassy Assault - Operating Instructions Loading The program is made up of four sections. Load the first section using LOAD "" or LOAD "EMBASSY". The first section will automatically cause the remaining sections of the program to load. Total loading time is about 2 minutes and the program will then start automatically. If you need to start the program again later, use GOTO 1. Do NOT use RUN or CLEAR. Playing Instructions General You are one of our country's best agents and have been given the task of acquiring some top secret codes from the strong room of a foreign Embassy. Unfortunately the detailed layout of the Embassy is unknown. But you do know: - it is a four storey building (although not all floors may be accessible). - it is laid out geometrically with each floor being 35 metres square. As you progress you move 5 metres at a time. You have just entered the Embassy on the ground floor (floor 1) through the only entrance somewhere on the south side of the building. The TV displays the full perspective view you have from this point. You are facing north and are equipped with a compass (which is displayed at the bottom of the screen). You must now attempt to find the coderoom, go into it to find the codes and leave the Embassy again through the door by which you entered. You must do this as quickly as possible. Level of Difficulty You are asked at the start of the game to type in a number between 1 and 9 to indicate a level of difficulty of Embassy layout. Level 1 is the easiest; level 9 is the most difficult. Movement You move by pressing the cursor control keys as follows: Key 5 turn left (and move) Key 6 turn around Key 7 move forwards Key 8 turn right (and move) "Move forward" moves you forward 5 metres unless there is a wall in front of you. "Turn around" turns you through a half-circle but you do not move. "Turn left/right (and move)" turns you left/right by a quarter circle. You then move unless there is a wall, a staircase or a door straight ahead. You may only ascend or descend stairs or go through doors by moving forwards. Staircases The four floors are linked by staircases. If you are standing in front of a staircase up (positions A on the diagrams below) and move forward, your next view is from the point at which you exit from the staircase (position B below). The reminder at the bottom of the display reflects the change in floor level. Example 1 | | down | ---> | B | Floor 2 -----+-----+----++-----+----- | ++ | ++ ---> | ++ A |++ ++ up Floor 1 -----+-----+-----+-----+----- Note: Staircases may be joined in which case you automatically travel them all - see the example below. | | | down | down | Floor 2 -----+-----+----+++----+----- | ++ ++ | | ++ ++ | | ++ ++ | ---> |++ ++| B down ++ up up ++ Floor 2 -----+----++-----+-----+----- | ++ | ++ ---> | ++ A |++ ++ up Floor 1 -----+-----+-----+-----+----- Maps There are numerous maps hung on the walls of the Embassy. If you face such a map and press the m key, a plan is revealed of this floor only. The symbols used are: - u a staircase up to a higher floor - d a staircase down to a lower floor - m another map point - flashing + you are currently here - * the code room - ↑ the Embassy entrance (floor 1 only) Looking at the maps is extremely time consuming and should only be used in emergencies. Joystick Control You can use a joystick in this game if you have one available. In this case, use the fire button to display a map (instead of the m key) and the direction control stick (instead of the cursor keys) for movement. Timing your Assault The time display at the top of the screen shows how long you have been in the Embassy - this does not include time taken to draw the screen displays. Exit from the Embassy and playing again On leaving the Embassy, your journey time is displayed. If you have succeeded in finding the coderoom your time is compared with the fastest time to date for this floor plan. You have have the option to try another mission either in the same Embassy or a new one. Should you BREAK into the program, remember GOTO 1 to restart. © International Computers Limited 1983
