- Escape II - Some Years Later Written by Matthew Carrier Escape II has been designed with the look and feel of a 1983 ZX Spectrum style game. There are no flashy graphics, scrolly multicolour borders, zappy sounds (heck, there ain't any sound - my personal choice) or multi-channel stereo music (none of that either....) blasting away to tap your feet to. Just bung some music on your hifi and listen to that instead. Escape II has been inspired by New Generation's Escape - A classic. The stick man is the same graphic, but he now turns 180 on the spot when walking up/down the screen. For the 48k Sinclair ZX Spectrum only. 128k owners (all types), use 48k mode. There is no real stoy line, except you find yourself in a huge room, with a beeping, flashing box on the floor. You manage to switch the beeping off as it is driving you mad (I wish I could do that on BBC documentary programs). There is an arrow that points to the direction you look and some blue lights that seem to stay lit. In the far distance there seem to be some pilars, but what do they do? Control of the stick man is by keyboard only, none of those nasty fangled joysticks on this game. KEYS: Up ...... Q Down .... A Left ,,.. O Right ... P Pause ... H There are..... enough levels to keep you going for an evening, with some bonus squares to be found that do things during the game - find them and enjoy. If you break into the game (CAPS + SPACE) then just press R for RUN then press the ENTER key. (but you know that anyway) -- There might be an update/rewrite in the future, but just like Mire Mare, don't hold your breath waiting. -- Escape II has been written in good old Spectrum BASIC, then compiled with HISOFT COLT to give it a kick up the backside. I have decided to finally learn how to program Z80 machine code and these are my first attempts. They might not be the best compact nor speedy, but they do as they are told and I'm happy with them. Written using X128 ............ James McKay EmuZX ........... Vladimir Kladov (for writing the assembler bits) HiSoft Colt ..... HiSoft Melbourne Draw .. Melbourne House On a Celeron 1.3ghz running windows 98 during the July and August of 2011. This one's for Ollie:Birdie who passed away at the end of 2011. I miss you!
