Great Britain Ltd You are the Prime Minister and Chancellor of Great Britain. Your AIM is to stay in office for as long as possible. Load "GBLTD" At the beginning of the game you will be asked to enter your name and also to select the political party that you wish to represent. The screen will then set up full details of the state of the country including the following:- Inflation Rate (%) Exchange Rate ($/£) Unemployment Rate (millions) Popularity Rating (0-100) Number of Reforms (0+) Current A/C Balance (£+/-) Country Profile --------------- The following information is displayed: Population (incl figures for children and OAPs) Number of Companies currently in business Tax Income (detailing revenue from income tax, corporation tax, VAT and excise duties) Expenditure (this is the toal for the previous year) Balance (income less expenditure, this figure is then transferred to the Current A/C balance) All these figures should prove useful in your policy making. Shopping Basket --------------- The current prices of various products are displayed together with the adjusted Retail Price Index and average income figures. All these figures take into account inflation and tax changes and should be useful when preparing your budget. Budget Day: (i) Taxes --------------------- A list of taxes and the present rates will be displayed and you will have the opportunity to make changes. You are advised to keep your changes within reasonable bounds otherwise the computer may decide to interfere: Try to balance your need for extra income against the need to control Inflation and Unemployment and maintain the Exchange Rate. Budget Day: (ii) Benefits ------------------------- A list of benefits will be displayed and as with taxes, you will have the opportunity to make alterations. It is a good idea to keep these reasonably in line with Inflation otherwise your Popularity will be affected. Reform Opportunity ------------------ A list of possible reforms wil appear and you must decide on which ones you wish to spend money. You are advised not to spend less than £250m on any one otherwise little impact will be made. TIP Remember to adjust this minimum in line with Inflation. Each year a reform will be selected as being particularly important and if you have included this in your programme and spent sufficient on it, a "Social Reform" will be recognised. This will be worth quite a number of extra votes at the next election. It is now the end of the year. The computer will process the data input of the year and will display the amended Indicators. Play continues until year 5 when an Election must be held. Election Night -------------- Results will start coming in immediately and the SEAT totals for each party gradually incremented. The number of SEATS you win will directly reflect your performance over the period; your Popularity Rating is important but so are other Indicators. Once all the SEATS have been allocated the computer will decide which party(s) has a workable majority. If you have the majority you can continue in office. At this stage you may do one of the following: Continue Now; Retire: Save to Cassette to continue later If you decide to save, instructions will be given. Simon W Hessel Software 1982
