OLYMPICON Published by: MITEC SOFTDIVISION INTRODUCTION Millions of people follow the Olympic Games on the screen of their TV sets, so we thought that the owners of 48K Spectrums should have the enjoyment of participating in the following five Olympic events: 1 100m dash 2 Long-jump 3 100m hurdles 4 Javelin throwing 5 High-jump In "Olympicon",, Ed Moses, brother of the legendary fighter Ken Moses Jnr., is holding all Olympic records: this is the challenge - can you beat him? TO LOAD: Type LOAD "" on your Spectrum, then press Enter key and start your cassette player - OLYMPICON will autorun when loaded. Enter your name to get a listing of the actual Olympic records (remember: you MUST beat Ed Moses!), then you will be prompted by the TTY-message about the qualification limits which are needed for you to take part in the game. TRAINING MODE: Use this to practice first! Good Luck! 1st screen: 100m Dash After the START-field changes its colour from red/blue to green/blue, you may increase your speed by hitting any key of the Z-M row. The faster you hit the key, the more power you apply (hope you won't get after 60m, else you will not make the qual. limit!) You may only have one try. If you fail to meet the qualifying limit, the game is over. 2nd screen: Long-Jump This discipline requires control of two vectors: speed and take-off strength; indicated by the jump- off angle. Speed is increased by pressing keys Z-M. The jump-off angle is controlled by any key on the A-L row; the longer you press the key, the higher the angle will be. The best result will be achieved when the take off angle is about 45 degrees at maximum speed; as near to the jump-off bar as possible. You have three tries. Be careful not to overrun the jump- off bar, otherwise your jump is invalid! 3rd screen: 100m Hurdles Same as 1st screen, but now you must jump over the hurdles, using any one of the Z-M keys to speed up and any of the A-L keys to jump. 4th screen: Javelin Throwing Same as 2nd screen: Any of the A-L keys will control the throwing-up angle. The "Zero-point" for distance measuring is the 2nd bar after the sand- bank of the long-jump pit. 5th screen: High Jump The most difficult part of the game: Approach as near as possible to the high-jump bar by speeding up (Z-M), jump (A-L) and finally control your flight path by soft touches on the Z-M and A-L keys. If the bar (starting at 2.12m) does not fall, you have completed one round and may proceed to the next. SAVE TO TAPE AT ANY TIME IN YOUR GAME: Save your status onto tape by using the SAVE command as usual. (c) MITEC SOFTDIVISION
