PERSEUS ======= Once more the old 'Teller-of-Tales' does his stuff and this time he has chosen to use the mythology of the past as his subject matter. This time around it is the turn of the likes of PERSEUS, MEDUSA, DANAE and the GORGON. Will you be able to deal with them in the same sort of way that you dealt with all the previous character you came across in one of his 'tales' or will your quest falter on the steps of the temples of Athene and Hermes? The Story So Far ================ ... the old man enters, the buzz of conversation that has echoed around the lofty marble hall dies upon the air and the diners settle back in anticipation as the cup-bearers fill the goblets. The 'Teller-of-Tales' pulls his cloak tighter about his frail figure and begins his story .... "In the Golden Years, when the mighty gods dwelt upon Olympus, Polydectes, king of the land known as Seriphos, wished to marry Danae, but Perseus defended his unwilling mother and prevented the match being made. Anxious to be rid of the youth, the king demanded the gift of a horse from all his subjects .. urged on by the knowledge that Perseus had no recourse to such a beast and sure that this would lead to his downfall. Sure enough Perseus had no horse and in a moment of rashness offered the king anything else he might desire. Knowing full well that no man had ever returned from visiting the terrible sisters, the king asked for the head of MEDUSA - a Gorgon. The youth had no option other than to accept the challenge. So it was that Perseus set forth on his quest for the head of a Gorgon, but not before he visited the temples of ATHENE and HERMES in order to make 'offerings' and to seek their blessings for his journey ..... PERSEUS NOTES ===== Built into this game is a routine whereby it is possible to glean data on virtually _every_ character featured in the game ... or at least the more prominent ones that you will come across whilst playing it. To access this information simply type DATA * (where * is the name of the character or the place you are interested in. e.g. DATA HERMES will produce the information concerning HERMES the herald of the Gods. Use this knowledge wisely !!!! This game will recognise such commands as WORSHIP THE GOD and CHOP DOWN THE TREE but the usual VERB/NOUN input will suffice in most cases. Use RAMSAVE and RAMLOAD to store/recall a 'saved' position to and from MEMORY but for a permanent record always save to TAPE/DISK. HINT ==== At the end of Part One make sure you have all you will need in Part Two _before_ you make the journey from one part to another as there is no way going back ... that I know of !!!
