PLAY IT AGAIN SAM SCENARIO It was another rainy Monday morning. The bourbon bottle was empty, even the coffee had run out. Sam Spoon looked around his office. Times were so hard, even the cockroaches had moved out. There was a month's rent to pay on the office, and if he didn't pay his landlord yesterday the heavies would call round. The phonebill was due, the electricity bill was due. In fact, everything was due! Sam lit his last cigarette and contemplated the whims of fate. Once he had been one of the best, no, he had been the very best, in the city. Sam Spoon - Private Detective, that's what it said on the door, not that you could read it for the build-up of dirt these days. No-one had walked through that door for over a month, and nothing had fallen through the letter box, except bills, bills and threatening letters. He had not had a decent case for six months, and none at all in the last three weeks. Not even a lousy divorce rap, not even a lost dog. It had not always been this bad. He had been the best, the most sought-after, detective in the whole goddam town. Hardly a day had gone by without a new client coming in the door, and his face was always appearing in the Chronicle. But then the mob had arrived in town. They were mean, vicious, and nasty. They played rough, ignoring the rules. And you can guess who they most wanted to get sidelined! Yes, that's right! Yours truly, Sam Spoon, Private Dick. And when the mob called the tune, it paid to join the dance. So what was he now? Nothing but a broken down bum who could not even afford to buy a new bottle of bourbon. No, that was not right, he was still the best, just a little cheaper. Sam Spoon, Private Investigator, yours for standard rates of thirty dollars a day, plus expenses. Less if you wanted to haggle. In fact, yours for whatever you offered to pay! GAMEPLAY You are Sam Spoon, Private Investigator. It is a rainy Monday morning, some time in the mid-thirties, somewhere in America. You are dead broke, and the heavies are coming to collect! Somehow you have to get out of this mess! The game starts in your office. Inputs can include Nouns, Verbs, Adverbs and Adjectives. You may separate inputs by using (and), (then),(,) or (.). If you do so you may use (it) in place of a noun. When talking to other characters use ("), (Say) or (Ask). If the computer does not understand, it will ask you to "Say it again, Sam". Keep a notebook handy, and note down anything that you think may be useful. Draw maps, all the time. Remember you are the best detective in town, don't expect an easy case. The game is in two parts. When you have completed part one you will be given a code word to key into part two.
