Hi all,

Just to plug my own site a little bit: RetroPDFs has fully OCR'd PDFs of lots of Speccy mags, along with some for lesser formats :) Having them OCR'd makes local searching quick and easy (especially with an OS that does full-text indexing across files, for example Spotlight on the Mac).

There's more stuff being added all the time, so take a look if you're a secret mag-hoarder like me. All comments/feedback welcome.

Cheers

More info:
http://commodore-gg.hobby.nl - click on 'Agenda' or 'Calendar'

It's going to be crowded!
The theme of that day is about getting as much different retrosystems together as possible.
Two halls are opened, so I estimate about 50-75 people can get a table, and as always there are a lot of visitors.

Some Sinclair-enthousiast including myself are getting our hands on a table early, bringing lot's of funstuff with us (like the Spectrum towers covered in the Hardware section).

If you live in Holland, or you can be put in a suitcase or courier box, ship yourself there 21 april! ;)

ZXodus II preview

Although ZXodus II is still under development, the author Andrew Owen authorized me to make this "preview version" available for anyone interested on using it already:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15659782/ZXodusIIpreview.zip

As I already mentioned in another thread, ZXodus II is a sophisticated development platform that integrates several components, such as:

Automated multicolor tile map drawing

Custom tile animations

6x8 font driver

AY music

BEEP effects

Interrupt manager (supports defining additional interrupts)

and there are even more features planned for the final release.

Obviously putting together so many features in a Spectrum 48K would leave no space left for developing any programs using it... For this reason, ZXodus II only supports 128K machines (more especifically Spectrum models +2B and +3). Even so, ZXodus II reduces a lot the extra complexity related to managing and switching memory banks in 128K machines, by providing a tool called "bank2tap" that automatically combines the content intended for each bank and generating a tape file for you.

For additional details, check the text files and the source code provided in the link above. If you have further questions or comments, feel free to post them here (I will forward everything to Andrew) or contact him directly here:

http://www.facebook.com/chevs.stuff

There's a compiled demo in the package, that shows something like this picture below while the water is flowing and the music is playing :)

This soundcard is for ZX-Spectrum compatible computers. It uses in its work MOS Technology SID soundchip, which together with MOS Technology 6510 microprocessor gives you possibility to play SID tunes from Commodore 64 computer.

General information

This card is a piece of Commodore 64 computer without video-interface and keybord, with added interface for communicating with ZX-Spectrum via Nemo-BUS interface. In fact it is more complex, but generally it is like that.

- Processor - MOS Technology 6510 (two fixed clocks, PAL (985kHz) and NTSC (1023kHz), software switching);
- 64k SRAM;
- ROM - 16k (in prototype ROM could be replaced with 16k RAM for rapid BIOS loading into card);
- MOS Technology SID 6581 AND 8580 soundchips (software switching);
- Direct playing of PSID and RSID tunes;
- Possibility to change playing speed;
- PAL & NTSC compatible (INT and CLOCK freq.);
- Plays "fat" tunes;
- SID2SID compatible;
- Nemo-BUS interface, #xx5E port array;

It is possible that in the further development some characteristics of the card will be changed.

The card is independent microprocessor device, which works independently from ZX-Spectrum.

Hi Everyone!

Remember the Jet Set Willy Ultimate Fan Page aka JSW-UFP from the end of the 90's? After running it for 3 years I had decided to shut it down, because of many emails I was getting on daily basis. Sounds crazy, but helps to know that I was overloaded with my final exams and diploma thesis at the time. :-)

In the years that followed I kept running into sites and magazines mentioning the JSW-UFP and wondering what happened to the site, but I just kept going on, without giving it a second though.

That is, until a month ago when I went to a local hardware store wearing my geeky JSW T-shirt. A girl who was working there (some 25 years old, not more) said how she liked the T-shirt and that JSW was her favourite game of all times. I told her about the site that I used to have, and then it just came to me: if nowadays in the time of Playstations and Kinect there are still youngsters like her fascinated with that game, then there must be a timeless quality about it and putting the site back on might be a good idea.

So I pulled it out from the backup, tarted up the design, got in touch with the old contributors, and - voil?! The Jet Set Willy Ultimate Fan Page site is back on at http://jsw.retro-hut.com.

New stuff and updates are coming on daily basis. Now brewing some new game maps, a nice geeky article about the music in the game, sequels for other platforms and so on...

Check out the site, follow it on Twitter @JswUfp and tell me how you like it!

Cheers,

CheqEdit
it's a simple and small program that helps you to draw 64x48 graphics on screen in GRAPHICS MODE. Program can output as text in CHR$ format, control codes format, a special compressed data format or special Basin format, all in Basic.

Program can also import/export image files (bmp, png, jpg etc..).

What is it for?
if you want to create big graphics using G mode, this program can help you.

How to import text into zx spectrum?
This is tricky, you have to find an emulator or a tool to convert plain text into zx basic format. I recommend using basin.
Here is the screens:

I've made myself a to Speccy 2010. In addition to TurboSound (2xAY) it adds SounDrive and Covox support. Supported modes are SounDrive Mode 1, SounDrive Mode 2, Covox #DD,#B3,#FB and Profi/BB55. The volume level is lower whn you turn on the Covos with Turbosound or Ay but this is on purpose to get the full usage of D/A converter and avoid distortions. In case of bugs just let me know.
I've decided to make a video show about 1 bit music.

The first episode talks about the famous Wham! The Music Box.
It probably won't tell you anything new, but if you're bored or want to look for errors, give it a try.
Comments and suggestions are appreciated. This is my first screencast ever, so I might still need to practise a bit.

SERRA PELADA is a text adventure in Portuguese originally released for the TRS-80 and MSX in 1987. It was developed using an improved version of the game editor Sistema Editor de Adventures previously used to produce Amazonia.

More information about this game is available here. If you never heard about the real event before, you can obtain more information checking here or simply taking a look at this.

I'm currently reimplementing this game for the ZX-Spectrum, for a number of reasons:

There are way too few good adventure games in Portuguese, and this is one of the most famous Brazilian games that sadly was never released on the ZX-Spectrum;

This year's the 25th anniversary from the original release, thus it seems a good way to celebrate it;

Coincidentally they will restart mining the real place again this year!

I have already obtained approval from original author Renato Degiovani to convert this game. I expect to finish and release it in the next few days... assuming that GIGATRON will give me authorisation to publish it!

Hello all,

It's my very sad duty to report the death of "Kizzy" from the UK demo group Triad Developments / The Knights.

He was found dead on Tuesday at his home by police who broke in after he hadn't been seen for some time.

I first met Chris in about 1995 when he picked up AlchNews from somewhere. He was also in Sheffield so it was nice to know another local "Spec-chum". I managed to find him a +D and drive, for which he was extremely grateful.

He kept Alchemist PD in some great demos and was good friends with the United Minds and Extacy-3 and many other UK and European demo coders.

Even though he'd not touched a Speccy in some time he was still active and a popular member on the website Sheffield Forum, where his death was recently announced.

The biggest upset though is that last year he asked for my help in finding some of his work, which is missing from WOS. I've still got all my PD disks, but they're in storage in Sheffield (I now live on The Wirral), but I promised him that I'd find them out the next time I was over, but I never made the effort.

But I will make sure that I do make the effort and that his missing programs are in the archive.

Thanks All.

Thank you to all the people who have been contributing to the points raised in the 'A z88dk + sp1 demo (with source)' Thread in the Development section, it's good to see that coding a 30 year old computer can still manage to raise emotions in some people - a definite sign that it is alive and thriving - and I hope it goes on for another 30 years. But it will go on without me. I did my bit for King and Country - as it were - back in the 80's and now it's time for others to have the opportunity for their 15 minutes of fame.

If anyone is wondering why I haven't replied to any recent postings there it's because, as I told Timmy, if he didn't want any more off-topic postings made I would respect his wishes.
Since he did just that I have been true to my word and not posted there since. I have no problem with what was posted by others, we all have opinions and if you run away just because somebody says something you don't like about yours then you have no right posting them in the first place. But there was something about how a simple request not to talk about things that had no relation to the Thread itself was ignored and trampled over by others afterwards in the rush to make a point got me thinking about this board.

This is my last post here. To everyone who did, Thank You for playing my games over the years. I hope you enjoyed them.

'3e': Utility for handing files in a memory card formatted for a +3E enhanced Spectrum. Version 0.5alpha.

(C)2009-2012 Miguel Angel Rodriguez Jodar (mcleod_ideafix). GPL Licensed.
For support, please check http://www.zxprojects.com

CHANGELOG

January, 8, 201

- Fixed an inconsistency with return values for the backend mode. Now the front-end won't treat as an error if the image file is not a HDF file, but RAW.
- Changed the scheme for device file names for Windows. Instead of using the \\.\letter: scheme, which is valid for memory cards with no partitions, the "scan" command now returns the device file name of the physical disk, which is \\.\PhysicalDriveN with N being 0,1,2,etc.
- Initial support for shared disks (disks with a standard IBM partition table where the first one is a "unused/unkown" partition, where the PLUSIDEDOS volume resides). USE WITH CAUTION. The partition type used for detecting the presence of an IDEPLUSDOS disk inside a partition is type 0x7F, as suggested by Garry Lancaster at: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/zxplus3e/sharingdisks.html
- Initial support for halved size sector disks. It can now handle an HDF image file with halved sectors. USE WITH CAUTION

StrowSaw users don't need to change the strowsaw.exe executable, but they have to download the 3e.zip file, unzip it, and copy the executable to the location the old version was (Windows users). Linux and OS X users can compile the source code included. I can provide OS X universal binary executables upon request (they will be included in future releases of "3e" inside the 3e.zip file).
