The Cocteau Twins and Elizabeth Fraser have scattered appearences although American Artists like Mississippi John Hurt are given deserved coverage.
I guess this is why all the lyric sites are being closed down in a hurry.
We lost track of time, chatting about the wild, romantic nights we used to enjoy together.
I couldn't believe it when she asked if I'd be interested in meeting up and rekindling a little of that 'magic'.

Wow!", I said, "I don't know if I could keep pace with you now! I'm a bit older and a bit balder than when you last saw me!"
She just giggled and said she was sure I'd rise to the challenge!!!

"Yeah" I said, "just so long as you don't mind a man with a waistline that's a few inches wider these days!"

She laughed and told me to stop being so silly!
She teased me saying that tubby bald men were cute!

"Anyway, I've put on a few pounds myself!" she giggled...................
Its all been building up to todays launch ( in one of those space shuttle simulators ), and it was very funny, especially the Welsh guy who said " its amazingly smooth its like we never left the ground "LOL

Bit of a sad topic this, but as we're on a sort of 1980s nostalgia forum:

Anyone here have memories of eating on British Rail trains and/or stations?

There used to be a burger chain called Casey Jones, and some cafe chain too. On trains the buffet car always seemed to have chocolate croissants for some reason, and incredibly expensive tea.

I also remember being on an intercity train in the early 1990s and buying a can of coke and a twix from the buffet trolley, and ?5 wasn't enough to pay for it all. Talk about shocking!

Standup comedians of a certain age seem to go on about "individual fruit pies" but I think they'd gone by the time I started taking trains. Anyone know what these were?

I'm in Watford which is quite a few miles from Hemel Hempstead. Reports are now coming through that there have been three explosions in Hemel about an hour ago at approx. 6am., near an oil depot or something.

I was on IRC at the time...

[06:01] jim: wtf?
[06:02] jim: the whole house just shook!
[06:02] jim: like an earthquake
[06:02] jim: like something VERY heavy crashed onto the floor next door or something
[06:02] jim: i felt the place shake, whilst there was a loud muffled boom
[06:03] jim: just looked out the window, looks normal
[06:03] jim: very strange
...

I then started to speculate that some fat person next door had fallen out of bed or something. Anyway, the above gives some sort of indication of how big at least one of these explosions was!

Little news yet as to what exactly has happened, but early eye witness reports coming through say that "houses are damaged". :(
I can only imagine the size of this explosion, having felt the tremor so many miles away! I have no idea yet about casualties. I guess more will become clear in the next few hours.

It's true.

Their new compilation 'Lullabies To Violaine' contains a song, 'From The Flagstones' where you can actually, for the most part, understand what Liz Fraser is singing.

The band were unavailable for comment, but a source, completely unaffiliated with either Cocteau Twins or 4AD Records claims it was a mistake and it should never have happened.

Many fans throughout the world were shocked at this revelation and one fan from Caracas, Venezuela suffered a severe stroke and is now hospitalized. He is not expected to recover.

4:35am, riding my motorbike to work, got my royal mail coat on, and all my kit in a delivery pouch over my shoulder.

See in the distance someone staggering about picking things up off of the road, assumed it was some homeless guy looking for dog ends.

Person then staggered back and forth across the road, before coming to stop on the pavement leaning against a lampost.

Thought no more of it, (by this time I was to far down the road to turn off, and not easy to do a u-turn in a hurry.)

Then, just as I got near him, he started waving his arm at me i a "stop" gesute.

So, I accelerated to 30mph, even though I was approaching a junction. He then basically ran in front of me, and wich ever way I went, followed, fucking idiot, so I had slowed down a bit and all by then

I was almost at walking speed when he lunged at me, causing me to swerve to the pavement on the wrong side of the road, and then made an inept grab at me, as I screamed FUCK OFF, opened the throttle and got away.

I was momentary worried at the time, but I'd got away, then there was the matter of the junction. Lights were red. I decided to jump them in case this drunken idiot was tyring to chase me. Typically there was traffice coming, but I didn't interfer with their progress. I noticed a few other people lurking about.

I don't think he was trying to "mug" me in a steal my wallet type of way, but whatever he was up to it could have resulted in a nasty accident

So, after finishing work I phone the police. They wanted to know why I didn't report it earlier. So I explained that there wasn't actually an accident just very nearly -- and we had mountains of mail to deliver cos it was Xmas.

Anyway, guess what. There have been a few incidents of this nature*, and it happened just by....... some pubs that have got 24 hour licenses.......

*Alotugh she did wonder if it was related to the Royal Mail, and bag snatches, which I doubted.

Anyway. It was one of those non-incidents, which was also very worrying albeit briefly, and it pissed me off. I shall in the future, make a 1 mile detour of the entire town centre. I ride a motorbike, rather than cycle, to avoid the loonies - who usually shout abuse, now I am going to ride right around the entire town.

Looks like it's time to start randomly deleting emails and changing permissions on things and repatching stuff confusingly - maybe a new set of rules on the firewall - maybe a powered ethernet killer cable!! any suggestions??
It was always on the cards being a temporary contract BUT they've finally decided to give me a painting of a spitfire and let me go - after Xmas. Funny too, as my boss flicked through a calendar and said
"sometime around the middle of January, something like Friday the 13th - oh no ,you probably don't want to leave on that day..."
So, that could be my WOS days numbered for a while(new house, new estate, no phone lines yet).
