Does anyone happen to have a copy of the 'ZX Spectrum Image Applet' that they could possibly mail me? I've read that this applet can take any standard .GIF/.JPG etc. image and display it the same way a Spectrum would draw a loading screen. Trouble is, all links to the host site are dead.
Hope someone can help!

Last times I sent below message to some ZX81 fans. Without any result. It makes me sad, 'cause it would be cool to show the world that ZX81 is good machine - and make some good demos for it.
But - it seems - nobody's interested.
I decided then to try my luck here.
I don't have big hope 'though.

____________________________
Hi there, ZX81 fans! ;)

I have several questions to You.

Well, is there any GOOD coder for ZX81, who would be interested in making demos for it? I mean some really high-quality programs, which could show to the ppl, that ZX81 is REALLY good machine. (For example take al look for the best Speccy demos).

What do You think of it?

Is there any possibility to convert Speccy graphic (only black/white of coz) to ZX81? If so - I can provide a VERY good graphician for it.

If I recall, ZX81 has the same zx-bus, like Speccy. So it would be possible to plug-in AY interface (like to zx48K) to ZX81 too.

If ZX81 would be 16Kb, then we could really make some demos. Not many - once a year maybe. But they MUST be really high-quality stuff.

There is many ZX81 freakz. They make maaaaaaanyyyyy things for this computer. But nobody makes real demos for it. So this field is free. Somebody could take it. And make many good things for ZX81.

If there wouldn't be any possibility to convert Speccy songs to ZX81 with AY, then maybe somebody could write a tracker for ZX81...? It is REALLY possible.

Can You spread my letter to other ZX81 fans? (And to Your WWW sites)...??????
Maybe somebody will be interested?????????????????????????????????????????

Regards,

The CAPS web-site posted some news stating that the latest version of Edge Retro has a feature covering preservation of games for various platforms including the C64 and Amiga... but no mention of the Amstrad and Spectrum.

Has anyone seen a copy yet? I had a look out for it yesterday but couldn't find a copy!!

If true, I'll be annoyed no end. For a British Magazine not to cover two home grown computers in a retro feature would be the ultimate insult to everyone who has worked so hard contributing to the Vault, WOS and ADATE projects...

It may be me, but I've had a gut feeling for a while that the Edge staff are hugely biased towards American and Japanese console / platforms...

What does everyone else think?
The mechanism that detects the amplitude change on C64 only works in one way i.e. it only detects the change from HIGH -> LOW amplitude. For this reason all data on C64 is saved as a pair of pulses (it doesn't matter the length of each of these pulses, since the C64 adds up the lengths of both pulses).
Does anyone remember the FAST (Federation against software theft) ads that came out in the late 80's and early 90's. They were hilarious as the main protagonist in various of the ?episodes? managed to turn in his friend and teacher for the 100 pound reward. They were comic book style and in black and white and must have appeared in Crash at some stage (they were in all the mags of the time). Does someone know the issue number and page so I can download them from the Archive?

Your Sinclair, January '86, pages 62-63, "Snake" by Robert Stockton

Unfortunately, I can't really wait for the next type-in update (which might take a while, what with these holidays and all), so if possible, could someone help me decypher what UDGs were used in these lines:

140
170
4060
4080

They are VERY poorly drawn, indistinct, and, most importantly, non-proportional !. You can see what the UDGs are by typing in only the UDG definition routine (there seems to be a problem with <udg-o>, BTW, it has an excess '0' at the beginning). You can then try to make out what those shapes may be...
It is most likely that ALL the UDG's were used.

A (probably useless) piece of information: Those 'bricks' drawn in INK 5 and under the 'Snake' title are <udg-h><udg-i>. I don't know where <udg-j> fits in.

Can anyone help ?! :)

P.S. Arjun, if you're interested and haven't done this already, I've typed up Bounzai and have an excellent TZX to replace the current Z80 version.

Although commenced in late November, it is only now in the last few hours of 2003 that the "Gosh Wonderful" ROM gw03.rom has attained a release state.

This packs a Renumber, Block Delete and Stream Lister into the spare space and the editor uses letter-by-letter keyword entry which makes typeing up magazine listings a breeze.

Best of all it has the original NMI Warm Reset feature which makes examination of many of the programs on this site a simple keypress in emulators with an NMI button.
It is fully compatible with the ZX Printer and Interface 1.

Good folks of WoS! Lend me your ears (figuratively speaking of course)! At long last, the kind and noble Martijn has cleared the Type-Ins project for WoS.

What this means is that, if all goes well, we would have a brand new Archive section specifically for Type-Ins. This would include type-ins from magazines and..get this...books! Yes, all those long hours spent slaving at the keyboard, typing in program listings from badly printed books (and magazines - though less so), would mean something! Your efforts haven't been in vain. Rejoice!

*coming back to earth*

Right, the requirement now is for er..the type-ins themselves. So, if you have any tapes with type-ins in them, dust them off and start TZXing them! We would also require some additional info for archival purpose. I would be posting the requirements soon.

BTW, the Type-Ins will NOT include programs made by users. The Type-Ins will feature only those listings, which were found in books and magazines. User programs will go into the normal Archive, as usual.

More updates on the project will be posted as and when I have them.

Watch this space Specchums! :)

Hi all,
I was surfing on the Internet some time ago and when I was connected to some web pages, a window appeared and said that I was the 10.000 visitor of those pages and I was winning some free journey or something. I hesitated for a while and then closed that window, because the message said that I had to call some US telephone number. Strangely, when I surfed two days later, the same window
appeared again. Eventually, it happened to me for the third time on a completely different server.

Do you have similar experience? What a man should do in such situation? Don't you think such things should be banned? Or did I miss a chance to travel around the world?

Merry Christmas to all you Spectrum fans! I think many of you (me too, 1984) did get your first Speccy for Christmas, so this is also an anniversary!
And remember that Santa doesn't live in North Pole or Sweden. Santa lives here in Finland. The place is called Korvatunturi and it's of course in Lapland.

As some of you might be aware, for the last 2 or 3 months I have been working on an extended version of my 2003 minigames competition entry Amusement Park 4000 for the 16K Spectrum. Until now Fun Park has been developed on a 48K Spectrum emulator, but as the project gets closer to completion I would like to test this game on a genuine 16K machine.

With this in mind I wondered if anyone here would volunteer to playtest this game on a 16K model and report any bugs? It goes without saying that you'll be credited as playtester either in the game or on the inlay card, and of course you'll be getting the game for free!

One other thing: my sound card doesn't work so you will need to be able to convert the TAP or TZX file to cassette yourself.

Any takers?

This is just a wild swing really.

I've been using Inform 6 to try and develop an adventure game. Inform, if u didn't know, is a programming language by itself and can be used to produce complex adventure games in the Z-code format (the format that Infocom games were in).

Just wondering, if any specchums have any experience in developing in Inform? I could use some help...
