The access light is on constantly (is this normal?) And no matter which position the toggle is in, some shrink-wrapped new maxell 3"s just say "Write Protect Error" or somesuch.
Any ideas ?? I think Spectrums are out to get me, first my Sprinter doesn't turn up, and now the speccy that has is buggered!

I've been looking at some of the various "New" harware options and kits which have been designed for the spectrum. Smard Card readers, IDE interfaces, extra ram, new ROMs the list goes on and on...

Does anyone posting here actually own any of this hardware and if so is it as cool as it looks to be?

I really do like the idea of having a HDD for my speccy. You could fit huge ammounts of spectrum software onto a hard disk. With some extra RAM to utilise the software, things could get way cool.

Most of this new hardware is expensive and it seems subject to minimum orders etc which is a bit of a shame.

What I'm actually dreaming of is having a Souped-up Uber Speccy with oodles of software on HDD and able to connect to other spectrums(or emulators)over a network, possible even THE net.

Anyone care to shatter my dreams? :)

My friend started to work on new way of loading games for ZX. It's dedicated to old-school fans, who wants only tape stuff.

There is a simple cable from LPT to ZX's tape 'jack'. And a program. The prog can change TAPs and *.z80 files (!!!) to normal ZX's loading signal.

But - what is the best - it has turbo mode attached. You don't need to change any programs, because turbo is in the PC's program implemented.

For now transfer is really great: ALL SPECCY'S 48 KB LOADS IN 56 SEC!! :)
Hello.

I know this could be a daft question, but there was a C64 game called Arnie (1992, by Zeppelin). It's a war shooter, like Commando/Who Dares Wins II but viewed isometrically. I'm not sure that it came out for the Spectrum, though.

What's bugging me is this:
Is that a pre-F1 David Coulthard on the cover, dressed as a soldier?
No, really - the likeness is uncanny! This is not a joke, OK?

Cheers!
However - I'm missing issue 70 (November 89). Any chance some kind soul
would be willing to scan the Playing Tips (or whatever it's called in
that issue)?

I'd prefer them to be at about 300DPI - makes for easier OCRing, y'see.

I'll also need similar help with issues 80, 81, 96, 97 and 98 - if anyone can help?

Or if anyone is willing to part with those issues for a non-EBay L@@K R@RE mad price, that'd be splendid..

Any takers? Big thankies on Tipshop for anyone who can help out.

Hi!

I just got a ZX Spectrum + from a friend. He said it was working around 8 years
ago when he put it into the cellar. It was in great condition - since it was
nicely stored. However when I turn it on it starts the reset routine (where it
clears the screen with a 1 bit pattern from bottom to top) and when it comes to
the top it just stops and sits there forever. Also reset doesn't seem to help
for some reason.

Anyone knows what could be wrong ? The power supply is OK, I tried it with
another speccy.

Best regards,
Tomaz

What makes a game or machine retro? just another stupid thought from me :) take the N64 for example, its been online now for a couple or so years, emulators, roms etc obviously while it was still a "working" machine - was it classed as retro then? or now since the gamecube, ps2 and xbox has superceeded it? just wondered ir anybody knows any rules or has thoughts on when a machine is classed "officialy" as retro lol

I just got into a good old fashioned argument with some guy on another forum about WOS. Basically I recommended this site for games, and this guy came on and said that I should not again mention the site on that forum because what is was doing with it's archive was illegal. I got annoyed with this and he went on about how wrong it was for anything to be on this site etc etc. I know what he's getting at, but it worries me. I think it's bollocks because without Andy Barker etc, there wouldn't be games to argue about anymore. The vibe I got from him and others was that very soon, everything in the archive will be removed. That's bad news folks.
So Martijn, or anyone else, do you think that's true?

Does anyone here know for 100% sure which issue carried "The YS Trainspotters Guide to
Playing Games" booklet?
The SPOT*ON magazine database lists is as coming with ish 12, while the fullscan set from Mort files it under ish 10. The magazines themselves don't seem to tell about it, oddly enough, unless I'm overlooking it...

I asked several knowledgable people, including Nick Humphries and Jim Grimwood, but they don't have the original issue with the pull-out still attached.

Is there anyone here who still has the guide stapled into the magazine, to guarantee the issue number?

Hi,

I've always been a C64 fan. No do not get me wrong, Spectrum was so rare here compared to Commodore.
Lately I've been looking for Spectrum to play some classics. What model and what peripherals are needed?! Is it 48k or something else?
Thanks in advance for those who help!

Main reason I'm looking for Spectrum is some games, like a few Ultimate titles never published for Commodore: Gunfright, Pentagram, Alien 8 etc. I love other isometric games as well and these gems were never published for Commodore: Sweevo's World, Where Time Stood Still etc. etc.
