In my experience, if an AMD CPU has no working fan, it takes about 15 seconds for it to overheat. There is no way it got so hot it exploded.
AMD CPU's can work effectively at 90c. Anything above that would have just melted the main board & cut the power to it.
Must've destroyed one or two others just to 'discover' this though.
