Chance it? Why not? There isn't anything on the edge connector that would harm the machine.
I dont know much about a Microdrive itself. Would I be wrong in thinking to use a Microdrive an Interface 1 is required to plug it in? Also, does the Microdrive (and the Interface 1 if needed to run a Microdrive) require the 9v line on the edge connector? I ask this because the 9v line was removed on the +3.
Yes, you'll need an IF1 to connect up the Microdrives.
And yes again, the IF1 used the 9v line from the edge connection, although reading the ZX Microdrive service manual it mentions that +12, -12, +9, +5 and -5 are all used.
I don't know what went wrong but I have managed to destroy the Alice 4 chip in my +D interface by connecting to my +3 via a fixit board, I swore I'd never use a fixer board again.
Personally, I would not rist it.
If you need to read/write +D disks on your +3, try Discdos from Dominic Morris - a shareware version that only reads is available from the FTP site - filename disccrip. You will obviously need a 3.5" drive attached as drive B: to your +3.
It was more of a curiousity question than anything else.
I only have 3.5" drives on my +3 (I dont own a 3" drive). I dont have any +D disks but I was going to build a couple of +D interfaces so I'll download the Discdos program and keep a hold of it. I'll no doubt need it at some point. :)
