ANN: Update 01-01-06 New year, New look, New Games

edited January 2006 in Announcements
Well if you have visited the site before you probably know what this title means, if not it doesn't matter. :)

There has been some major surgery on the site code including bringing everything under stylesheets. This is my first attempt at this so I might not have got quite right. If you see anything that looks wrong in the layout please let me know.

The second major update has taken place in the database code so now all the software houses have excatly the same name as the WOS infoseek engine.

This also means that "Tipshop" searches should also be much better as I can now include the publisher information.

Another change I have made is to the guestbook. Previously I was using a hosting company cgi to power it but this didn't give me much control over its display output both visually or the displayed fields.

The main upshot of this was that I couldn't turn off the fact that posters email addresses were being displayed.

Anyway at the moment all the data has been transfered over but all the postings have an identical timestamp. Yesterday. I will correct this in the next update.

Because of these quite major changes I have raised the internal version number to V1.2.0 release date 01.01.06.

I updated a couple of games as well.

    Hi, some comments:

I had trouble with the site using IE6 - the main "frame" appears below the index "frame", instead of to the right of it. So I get all the index stuff down the left side, down to My Non Sinclair Collection, then the rest, e.g. the home page, is below that.

I looked at the entry for Dragontorc; the emulator loaded Quincy for me...

    Cheers, Simon

Well IE worked for me(TM) while I was testing it but I have just tried it on dearly beloveds laptop and it is bollocks. I will look at that.

The Quincy is a mistake, I was using it for testing and it looks as if I have left it as a place holder. No problems, that will be corrected today.

Also on IE the title bar appears a bit crook.

    Thanks for those comments.

    CSS sorted - I think...

I have just discovered that IE and Firefox seem to have different ideas about what I thought should be safe formatting.

OH well it seems to test OK in IE 6 and Firefox 1.5 so any other display comments very much wanted.
