This may sound strange, and no offence to Martijn, but..
How do you actually pronounce Martijn?
I was never any good at proninciation in languages at school!

    I always pronounce it (in my head) Martini (shaken, not stirred)

    Is it actually Marteen? (rhymes with canteen)

    Am I even close?

    I would guess at a cross between the English pronounciation of Martin and "Marteine"

    Although Foggy is probably right, we should all call him Debbie (but spell it M a r t i j n) :D

    In Dutch a J after an I softens it, like replacing it with a Y and/or following with an E in English. Think "Martyne"

    What a superb idea of Martijn Koster!

    Indeed, the name Martijn is unknown outside the Netherlands (it's Celtic and means warrior).
    Interestingly, where I work, we also have an English bloke named Martyn (pronounced Martin) and even he struggles with my name. Most people simply call me Martin, which I've learned to respond to years ago. But Debbie would be good too of course. ;)
