Update 1: Finally, we're back to the scene. Gamestage has added a PayPal Donation option at the opening screen. Since Gamestage is a non-commercial and non-profit project, we GREATLY appreciate your donations! They'll HELP us to keep the site on-line. THANKS!

Also known as "How to get your site shut down in one easy step."

I wonder how any of the copyright holders will react to news that Gamestage is earning money off of the back of their work?

The bit that makes me laugh is this, "As everyone knows, Sinclair's ZX Spectrum is over now. It had its time to rule and games for it are not produced anymore."

Really? I was sure I was playing 'LocoBingo' last night....Must have been dreaming!

AH - that shouldn't have been a link.

Just grinds me that everything this bozo does has the power to damage the retrogameing community!

are you using firefox as there is a plugin called linification that turns a text url into a clickable link. When people put r@re it turns it into a mail linl but it just turns it into mailto:crap

I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you! Because a year ago, on page 6 of the "dangerous thread", he claimed (quote) "we are not competing with any SITE on the net."
Did anyone expect that to be a lie? Whatever next?

And he's removed his link to 'World of Spectrum' too.... Poor thing.
• I'd be happy to set up a pay-pay account just to hire someone to silence this wretched twit, any interest?

• edited March 2006
If everyone sends him 1 penny by PAYPAL, he'll lose approximately 20p in PAYPAL fees for everyone who sends it!

HO HO HO!!!
• edited March 2006
We need to shut this guy down like yesterday.
First I laughed when I read the Paypal option and then I thought about it. In no time we could have nearly every big software house demanding removal because someone is trying to make money out of their IP.
It's reckless action like GS's that could kill the Spectrum retro scene stone dead. We cannot let this happen.

I also think everyone who has a link on Gamestage should have it removed. People should see that anybody connected with WOS does not want to be connected with Gamestage.

This really has to be turned into an us and him situation. It has to be clearly seen and obvious that we at WOS neither condone nor want to be in anyway associated with Gamestage or the way he conducts himself.

HO HO HO!!!

I like your thinking. I think we should all do that on a regular basis. :D

We promise to get back very soon with some radical changes, so you can count on us as being the biggest interactive ZX Spectrum database on the net. Stay tuned.

Sounds like he's going to try and invade WOS and take over, because that's the only "radical change" that would make Gamestage the biggest Speccy database on the net.

Glad to see his ego still knows no bounds. I bet this thread has increased his visitor count by a factor of 50.

so much hatred... and it isn't even a C=64 site!
• edited March 2006
Also, why is Gamestage still using the Lidl's version of the Honey-nut-Loop's Bumble bee, as his logo? That's just too damn weird! What an arse!
• edited March 2006
Boo! Hiss! to Gamestage! I had a look last night to see what the fuss was about and it looks and is c**p.
• edited March 2006
I was going to put a paypal button on my site, but decided against it as I doubt anyone would use it anyway.

In the last 12 months I have purchased a dedicated PC for the torrents, electricity to keep it running 24/7, hosting for the main site, etc.,

Add to that Morts scans, broken scanners, buying the magazines.

SPT buying books, scanning them.

Countless other people contributing, development time for the old site & soon to arrive new site, etc.

This isn't a cheap hobby. To have gamestage ripping of anything he can get his hands on - especially from WoS where it's taken 10 years to get this far is bad enough, but to ask for donations too? Takes the piss.

Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Really? Are you serious?? It'll really cost him 20p for paypal fees if we send him a single penny? Well if it's true, why don't we all send him a penny - bancrupt the little f*ucker into the ground?
Oh bugger!<br>

Is it just me, or are all of gamestage's download links broken?

I'm using Firefox with Windows XP, and every single gamestage game I've tried to click on has just given me this:

The requested URL /spectrumgames/game-spacepanic.zip was not found on this server.

Not quite. According to the PayPal help pages he has to manually accept or refuse any donations made. I sent him 3 donations of a penny last night, but their status is at "unclaimed" when I view them in my PayPal account.

It makes me wonder whether his ISP has been contacted about the Paypal thing, whether they've shut down all the bits with copyright material on them.

Which would be nice. :)
