Activision's Sailing

edited July 2002 in MIA/STP/SDP
Sailing by Activision is listed on the STP pages. I have a .VOC of it, but I can't turn it into a nice .TZX.

What should I do with it? Upload the .VOC and see what others can make of it?

    Hi,

A CSW & WAV have been available for a while, along with other titles not yet decoded and are still on the STP lists, you can get it from my Schemes page:
    http://www.sunderland.ac.uk/~as0aba/Schemes/schemes.html

Ramsoft haven't been able to work on this or any other loaders I've made available.

It's a shame and I hope that they will soon resume work on Real Spectrum and MakeTZX.

Is there anything anyone else could do? Would disassembling the loader help, for example?

Can the TZX format definitely encode Sailing, or could it be outside its limits? (ignoring the possibility of including the VOC inside a TZX file)

if you want EXACT timings, disassembling loader won't help; you have to disassemble the saving routine, which can sometimes be found somwere in the code (i can't quite remember but i think i saw one in 'heavy on the magick' for example).

the tzx format is very flexible, i believe it can handle virtually any loading scheme, once decoded.

by the way, sailing.csw doesn't load in my realspectrum b12...

    Hi all,

Well Ramsoft usually implement the loaders, but as they are so busy it seems no one else seems to know how to do them ?

I belive you need to examine the loaders (dissasemble), there might be sub-blocks as per powerload. You also need to examine a waveform (.WAV) of the tape to determine the loading speed.

Indeed you are correct the CSW I have of sailing doesn't work, but the other two do ;-
    Goto: http://www.specfreak.co.uk/DirectRecords/

And you can find all the CSW/WAVs I have, so if someone fancies having an go then be my guest, we might be able to implement the loader/decoder into VOC2TZX.
