Here to go!

edited August 2006 in Sinclair Miscellaneous
Welcome to the new look!
This migration took a lot longer than expected (2 hours on the test setup, 5 hours on WoS), but everything ought to be good.

If you see anything wrong, please let me know and I'll try to fix it.

The only known problem is that the signatures below the old posts just say "". This appears to be unsolvable.

Enjoy!

What I forgot to say, is that the forums might be a tad slow at the moment. This is due to the search database being generated in the background (took 4 hours so far, 2/3 done).

    Hurray!

I knew something was up when I tried to log in to the forums only to get a "Forbidden Page"!

Now, to explore this forum thoroughly....

It's looking cool Martijn. Well done. :)

What happened to Auction Tracking though?

    Wooooh!! Nice-work Martijn... :D

I can see this getting a very mixed reaction. It looks good to me on first impressions. Well done!

Will have a wander around and see what's new!

    I hate it.

With this fine piece of software, you can only see the forums you actually have access to ;)

I can't say I dont like this new look, but I liked the other one better, I suppose it will be a matter of time to get used to it.

I hate both looks equally ;-)

where are the speccy colors then!

    (p.s. joking, looks great now!)

    Wow its all different !

Its like putting on a new pair of boxer shorts ! Feels a bit weird at first !

    I like it.

Like the new look. We just need the old graphics back for the "new posts"/"no new posts"/"popular discussions" etc.

Also, does the search go back any further than the last 500 posts?

Looks different, but not bad. I think this is a change to better.

Yes, graphics are a next step.

It had better, seeing the generation of the search database pretty much takes forever (still going)...

Being sick (pneumonia :( ) I only just noticed the new forum. I kinda like it (lets face it - the forum DID need an update). But it seems a lot of formating (stuff like

, etc.) is gone now and it looks weird...

I like the new forums. Have had a quick dash about checking the options and I like what is in here.

The PM feature, for example, seems like a godsend after the old one! Some nice options in there. Then the Quick Links on top is a neat idea. I'm intriguied by the Calendar feature - someone could mark some important events I suppose. Maybe the meetup everyone was planning for instance?

The message editor has RTF support so formatting the text is a lot easier. No messing around with HTML formatting - the editor does it for you. Then there is the option to subscribe to threads, which I didn't find particularly useful but it's good to know its there. I'm a bit puzzled by the FAQ link on the strip on top. It takes you to a search the FAQ page, but I'm at a loss to know which FAQ this searches in. Typing in Spectrum turned up zilch so I guess this feature isn't ready yet.

So far, so good! Excellent choice on the software Martijn!

EDIT: Btw, Martijn, what's the green button next to the user id's for some?

Cocteau Twins official forum uses the same software so I'm already used to it. It's excellent.

Looks just like the EAB forum now - don't get me wrong, it looks great (as does EAB), but it's just kinda lost that "retro" feel we used to have.
    Oh bugger!<br>

It lets you know whether the poster of the message is currently onlne.

I like the option to show new posts today. And email notification of private messages.

Hi TC, could you please specify further where any formatting is broken? I spent most of yesterday to prepare the fixer script that ought to have cleaned up any such mess. If there anything left to fix, I'd like to do that :-)

I could update the new style mail graphic with the Spectrum stripes as in the old style.

Apart from that changing the colour scheme of the forum to a Spectrum themed one shouldn't be a problem.

The new forum is looking very slick. Its not finished tho is it? Will it get bit more of a "Spectrum" look as time goes on? Also, I hope this isn`t the start of a wider reaching WOS makeover. I can`t speak for anyone else, but personally I love the site just how it is.

Woah. Check that out - quotes only go one level deep.

Anyhow, you might want to take a look at the old (code) ... (/code) blocks - they end up as HTML text.
(Yes, the brackets should be square, but they work in here and not elsewhere for some reason).

    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10182

    Is a good example.

It'll take a little getting used to, but if it means a vastly improved service, then that's no bad thing! Hurruh!

Martijn, the new forums look superb. Congratulations on a (fairly) smooth changeover. Had a bit of a heart attack this morning when I got the guru meditation up, thought I was running my Amiga emulator!!!
