  • As tehy say, WTF!!!
Waht are yuo on abuot, mysteriousinternaut? My name is not 'Edwin' yuo liyng ba*d.

Hope you enjoyed that chatfest of intentionally incorrect spelling.
  • Just wanted to say a few things.

    1) Every couple of months I read through this thread again - always has me in stitches about how daft some of my posts were. Then again, some of the regulars were acting a bit silly at times.

    2) My site now has a new domain name redirect - sorry but it's a .tk (but no rap music fortunately). http://justtotheleftofvenus.tk (to get it without the popups, here's the actual location) is packed with free games. When I update it (v. soon) it will also have on it ONY-X, my attempt at a DOS WIMP GUI.

    3) Harris and StarStrike II can install anywhere on your hard drive, and so will ONY-X be able to. As for the ancient technology that is StarStrike I, that can only be installed in C:/PROGRA~1/ECSE/STARSTRIKE I because I see no point in updating something so old even I don't like the graphics. It's only there because of the running story.

You can pay for your .tk-domain if you want to get rid of pop-ups...

You can equally well give people the actual location link, and only use the .tk-domain for a) telling people face to face where to find your website and b) trying to get picked up by a search engine (reminds me, haven't prodded Google yet).
    Swish site there.
CKay, my name is Edward. The MI simply likes to annoy me by calling me Edwin.
And do I detect a hint of sarcasm?

There's no such thing as rap music anyway -- it's a contradiction in terms, like civil war or reality television. :D

I first saw Smarties in the 1960s, and I doubt that they were new then. I didn't see M&Ms until the 1990s.

In one of those Pic'n'Mix places, I once came across what were called "Smarties" but, on tasting them, obviously weren't -- they were carob rather than chocolate (the difference is slight but detectable -- one of the differences is that carob has no caffeine, hence no bitter undertone) and the orange ones had no orange flavouring. :)

Are they still making Smarties? I just remember the tubes being handy and the plastic lids were different (or they were engraved with the logo or something). For some reason I remember the lids being memorable (though small) but that was close to 20 years ago.

In my memory I prefer Smarties over M&M's, not sure why though.

PS ... this thread's not gone AWOL yet, right? I mean it's labeled " A Public Service Announcement"

This is still a Public Service Announcement, the thread title just doesn't say what the announcement is therefore we're still officially on-topic.

M&M's don't count cos they're american. Smarties have been around for more year than I can remember and thats quite a few...

Quite a few years you do not remember? ... or ... quite a few years you have been around?

Maybe your sig should read "I've forgotten more than you will ever know!"

    Hear ye, hear ye!

According to Wikipedia Smarties were introduced in 1937, while M&M's were first sold in the USA in 1941.

M&M's are the American version of Smarties. There was (and still is) already present another candy by the name of Smarties, so the product was re-named for the US market.

Now here is my snag ... my tastebuds have told me there is a slight difference between the two products. That's just my personal observation and there is nothing I can do about that.

The other snag is that Nestlé bought Smarties back in the late 80's, which is after I had tasted the Rowntree's version of Smarties. My personal opinion is that Nestlé ruins any candy they touch with their grubby, little hands. Ok, they do have a signature Nesthisthat flavour but f.ex. the Rowntree Macintosh flavour was completely ruined (imho) when Nesthisthat bought the company.

So ... after that little rant I have to ask those wise enough these two little questions:

Do Smarties taste the same as M&M's?

Do Smarties still taste the same as before Nespoop meddled with the production?

    Skarpo
    :-)

PS Imo the only fair-tasting Nesthisthat product is Nesquik ... but the bunny is annoying!
PPS I am a part of the public, so please service my announcement (erm ... )

No. M&Ms (the plain chocolate ones) taste more "peanutty". Smarties have more of a proper chocolate taste.
    Skarpo wrote:

That I don't know. I'm fairly sure they taste the same as they did when I was a lad - but I could very easily be mistaken. Unfortunately I wasn't around in the 30's so I don't know the original taste.

I agree with you about the peanutty taste.

The other thing, I meant to say this: "Do Smarties taste the same as before Nespoop bought out Rowntree?"

And then you say I contribute nothing to WoS...

On the topic of "Smarties", can I just say that it's not smart to eat "Topic"s :D. [No. Oh, too late, you already have - Ed.]
Skarpo, you are right, Nestloser ruin everything they touch. The yellow bit of Fruit-Pastille Lollies being a prime example.

robert@fm - you missed one in your list of contradictions-in-terms - Military Intelligence :D. Or possibly something along the lines of me and humour.

I only wanted to show a way to get rid of the pop-ups

I wouldn't expect any sort of meaningful argument, zx128. After all, even though he's only 14, AY is (apparently) an astrophysicist, nuclear physicist, aspartame expert and conspiracy theorist (with a unique insight into the real inner workings of Freemasonry). He also has an alleged IQ of 271.

Unfortunately, his Social Skills Quotient (SSQ) and Common Sense Quotient (CSQ) average around 5-10.

    Necros.

I know he is only a teenager...
so I blame it on his age.

Anyone not from the UK will be confused so let me explain. This relates to a TV show in the 1990's in which a teenager called 'Kevin' used to rant and rave in an pre-pubic adolescent rage.
