Tonights Doctor Who

edited May 2006 in Chit chat
Well, I don't care what anyone says.

Tonights Doctor Who, For Me, Was the best episode of Doctor Who I've seen since the 23rd November 1983.

Flawless. I was almost in tears at the end of it :D

And Anthony Head Too.... Although this time he was a big bat :D

it was actually pretty good. i've never been that into the previous ones so some of the significance of Sarah Jane was lost on me a bit, but I caught Dr Who Confidential and it explained it all.

I thought the K9 stuff was more moving though. Honestly!

yeah Giles, sorry Mr Finch, was excellent (if a bit too hammy at times).

It's surprised me just how good this series has been.

Definitely an improvement. My faith has been restored in the series. :)

Lets just hope the Cybermen are done well
  • I'm glad they didn't revamp K9 but kept him as he always was.

"Why is he so disco?" Because that's how all sci-fi robot assistants should be!

The Cyberman with his brain exposed looks REALLY creepy! Would rather have it set on Mondas, and not alter-Earth, but never mind eh.

Loved the School Reunion episode...Perfect characterisations all round.

I wouldn't go so far as flawless, but it was very well written, and very adult themes (no Mel, not *that* kind of 'adult') for a kids show.

The episode on the 23rd of November 83' was 'The Five Doctors'

Didn't you stay watching until the very end of the Episode? The Doctor rebuilt him, so K9 mark 3 lives on!

    Shouldn't that be k9 mark 4 then?

I really enjoyed it too. It was brilliant. The best scenes were the one between the Doctor and Finch at the swimming pool and the bit where Sarah and Rose were comparing adventures. Both Anthony Stewart Head and Elisabeth Sladen were amazing. :)

I thought the whole Dr, Sarah, and Rose story was brilliant, I wish they had been brave enough to have had the whole episode based on the trio, and done away with the Krillitane part of the episode, the easy get out of " hmm how shall we kill the Krillitanes, I know let the dog do it " makes me think that part of the story was an after thought, I too thought it was quite an emotional story.

it'd be better if Rose wasnt such a pikey cow though. Still, at least she's not as bad as her mother who is by far the most unwatchable thing on television.

It's great to see Doctor Who back on TV and with a decent FX budget. I have been a big fan of the series from the early days of the Tom Baker era. Those episodes and some from the Peter Davison period were IMO the show's finest hour. I do however think that the new series, this one so far, and the last series, has lost something from the old ones. Maybe its just that I view it a bit differently as a 30 something, than as a 10 year old. But is it the case that it is being played more for laughs now than it used to be? In the old episodes the humour was less intrusive and more subtle, and sometimes unintentional, the occasional witty one-liner (I remember Tegan's "I'm just a mouth on legs"). Also the stories in this series, seem to be almost reworked from the last series - this weeks seemed to be more or less a combination of the slitheen episode, with aliens disguised as humans and the Dad episode with the winged monsters. The Queen Victoria episode was a bit like the one with Charles Dickens in that they thought lets revisit a famous figure from history. Maybe they should bring back some of the story writers from the old series - Robert Holmes (Talon of Weng Chiang, Caves of Androzani).
The solutions seem rather simplistic too - pulling out the plug, blasting a vat of toxic liquid. And where are the strange planets, universes, alternate dimensions etc. - seems to be always on earth. I used to love the episodes when they arrived on present day earth (Logopolis for one) because it happened so rarely and gave rise to all sorts of culture-clashes. Now the doctor can get a job teaching at a high-school, and no-one thinks anything about it!

So while it is good to see the show back again, I feel just a little disappointed with it. Hopefully the rest of the series will be on a par with its best moments from of old. Its still the best thing on the box at present.

The previews for next week's episode look really interesting. There's something about using clocks in a science fiction/fantasy/horror setting that interests me. :)

They haven't done a story with the Master yet. I wonder if there will be one in this series. Is Anthony Ainsley still around?

Yep, but I'd like to see Eric Roberts reprise his role first. That nasty snake is still locked inside the TARDIS.

I just looked at it and zeropolis79? A user on a forum about the C64? Was he only there to troll or something or is he actually a double agent?

It's on the Internet so it must be false.

Dammnit, that's a real shame. Russell TD had better get all the cameo's in of the old crowd pretty quick me thinks! I'm all for the return of Ian Chesterton!

Sorry, but I dont think this episode was that good. It just reminded me of that kids program from about ten years ago called 'The Demon Headmaster'. Sorry.

Quite how you'd know that is beyond me.

I agree that going that far into the future is stupid, mainly because in the next 1000 years we are going to crash into the sun.
