Tommygun Masking confusion.

edited May 2006 in Development
See when masking a sprite in TommyGun, yeah, does red mean 'show the background' or 'don't show the background'?

I come from a SevenUp usage background, so I'm just trying to figure it out in TG.

Thanks

It represents the background area you want to keep.
I think I originally wanted it to be the other way around, but a mask is really want is kept from the background and then merged with the sprite to make the new screen image.
So I ended up programming it that way.
Also the red area represents the 1's of the mask used in the assembly AND statement that does the masking.

Although, personally I find it easier to applied the masked red area over the actual sprite itself and not the blank areas around the sprite.
So maybe it should be selectable to have one way or the other?
    What do you prefer?

Yeah, that's what I prefer. For my simple brain, it tells me that the sprite (which is now all red) is safe and the background won't show through.....
Actually, now that I think about it....bugger.

Let me try it tonight and I'll let you know.

    Cheers.
