linking speccy (+3) to PC

I want to load games in to the speccy, I can do the soundcard playing into the speccy thing, but, is there a more advanced way?

i've had a look for info on RS232 connections, etc, but the only 'easy' software i can dig up is Linux based, i'm an XP junkie

this'll be a nice interim till i build the HDD interface

If you had a 3.5" drive in your +3 (bearing in mind the +3 comes with a 3" drive by default) you could use RealDisc (a part of the RealSpectrum emulator) to write disc images.

Phoenix (of RA and Papaya Labs) did write RawwOS which gave you a high-speed RS232 connection - not sure if it's still available. If I recall it had a server running on the PC which sent the requested files.

In theory you should be able to use something like HyperTerminal to do the comms from the PC side.

hyperterm sends binary files using some fancy protocols, but you could possibly write a terminal for the speccy to recieve these, I don't think hyperterm handles non ascii text very well (I have tried similar to this on BBC micro) I find you can get better results using Terminal.exe (it came with win3.11) not tried any other terminal progs with my beeb. It is also possible to send data to rs232 from some emulators, so you could write a program to move data from a disk image on emulator to rs232, and then from 232 to 3" disk at the other end
I think there are a couple of terminal progs in the archive for the speccy, but of course these will take up memory,
I'm no expert, but you could possibly write a program to take the data from rs323, and write to empty 3" disks, if you have any blank disks, but if you loaded the games straight to memory you wouldnt be able to use the full memory (as the transfer prog would need some), and some games may need to be hacked to run from different locations
