Dreamcast

edited June 2006 in Chit chat
Amazing what you can pick up these days for pocket money. Got myself a Dreamcast and Resident Evil Code Veronica for a tenner. I can't put the thing down. Even though the controller is possibly suited to King Kong. And the controller lead seems to be coming out the wrong side???

Ooooh its got a 33k modem too. This is way cool

Yup, the Dreamcast is still a damn fine machine. There are loads of gems for it. I recommend:

    Soul Calibur
    Sonic Adventure
    Shenmue 1 & 2
    Ferrari Challenge
    Daytona USA
    Crazy Taxi
    Ikaruga
    Half-Life
Phantasy Star Online (when the Ragol servers were on anyway)

There are loads of others, just can't think of them at the moment.

Also, maybe I shouldn't say this, but what the hell Sega aren't making (much?) money off Dreamcast anymore. You can download the iso images for just about every DC game from {insert favourite bittorrent site here}, burn to cd and pop it into you DC without any hardware mods whatsoever. I've done it with a couple of games that you can't get over here (especially Half-Life as it was never sold in retail (sure I'll be corrected if wrong)), but as the games can be picked up for a couple of quid nowadays it's prob not worth it ;-)

I've never had much luck with bit torrent doo dahs, besides which I like to have the originals. The cases are horrible though, they break up in no time at all. I shall get my ass down to the shops later and see whats cooking.

I always felt that there was something a bit
off with DC control pads, didn't care much for those
    memory cards with batteries either.

Mind you, it ain't a bad console at all and there are
some great games on it, particularly the ones already
mentioned and Code Veronica rocks too!

I think Resident Evil 3 was released on it an all but I could
be wrong about that. Though the game is quite short,
it's a bloody good play and if you ever come across it
on the cheap I'd highly reccomend it.

The Dreamcast was the aceness. Fave game is a little known import gem called 'Bomber Hehhe'. Aside from the usual suspects (Soul Calibur, Virtua Tennis etc) try and find Sports Jam. It's the best multi-event sports game ever. Awesome 2-player game also.

I didn't think that was finished for the DC? Wasn't that cancelled with Blue Shift and changed for the PC?
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Half life was never released, but it's avalaible somewhere on the net and it's been reported to be fully working and playable to the end.

Resident Evil 3:Nemesis was indeed released for the DC( I own an original copy), but unlike Code Veronica it's just a port of the PS1 version with slightly improved graphics (basically just higher resolution for polygons characters).
I really love my DC, I bought it when it was fairly new, and I got a pre-modded unit to play usa and imported Japanese games on it.
Recently I discovered that I could get games over the net and I started to collect a few gems that for some reasons I missed when they came out the first time around.
But I am defenetly enjoying my DC even more then the GCN recently, maybe because I like arcade style games, and the DC has a lot of quality ports.

I forgot to add the mighty Samba De Amigo to that list.

It's one of those rhythm action games like Parappa the Rapper but it's easily the best of the lot and a brilliant pissed-up party game. It should come with two marraccas but the problem is getting (and affording) a copy. Have a look on eBay to see what I mean.

If you like Resident Evil i recomend `Nomad Soul`,the story at first sounds a little cheesy but like Resi i used to play it with lights off and was completely drawn into the story of demons and people found murdered on the streets of a futuristic/fantasy world.
I have seen some really dissapointing reviews for this like 5/10 and 7.5/10 and must be in my opinion one of the most under rated games of all time as it is probably thew only game i have ever played where you genuinely feel as though you are actually involved and are part of a game world.(spooky)

I really enjoyed Blue Stinger. OK, so it's not the best game ever, but it's one of the few games I've seen through to completion. Highly underated game in my opinion! If you can get a freeloader disk, then I also highly recomend "Fire Pro wrestling D". easily the best wrestling game I've ever played. HUGH roster to choose from too!

Rayman 3 is a good one on dreamcast. I got Half Life, never got past the beginging because the intro takes forever and you cant skip through it....thats a big no no for me.

    Going off topic a little...

I picked up a copy of the Half Life Anthology for the PC
the other day. That long intro is quite annoying but the
game is quite good and darn hard too.

I'm currently having issues with some big blue bugger
chasing me around a car park and knocking seven bells outta me.

    hehe

I got stuck at that bit too.

You've to turn on the power then get him to chase you down to the generator so you can fry him.

    Thanks for that. :)
I ain't so great at this game, most of the time I've
been getting through areas it's been a complete fluke.
