Austen Stevens is so much better, not to mention steve austin.

You could tell something like this was going to happen to him sooner or later.

Nuts. I hope I didn't tempt fate by mentioning him in the Robbie Williams thread below.

I was saying that now Robbie isn't gonna sing anymore, he should do some something dangerous, like become a crocodile hunter.

Well, the position is now vacant.

Go for it you useless, fat, ex Take That dancing gaylord.

Shame about Steve - he seemed a nice bloke. It was kinda on the cards. Mad way to die. Better than on the toilet I suppose...

You dont see Attenborough doing that kinda crazy shit. RIP Stevo.

shame, i always liked his tv shows...

although there was one where some kind of giant killer lizard thing chased him and he ran up a tree, i remember thinking "hang on, he's up a tree, but the cameraman is still on the ground 6 feet away from this godzilla thing"

Yeah, it's a sad loss for him to die before his time but a strangely appropriate way for him to go.

I had the pleasure of visiting Australia Zoo earlier this year and it has to be said that he's done an amazing job with the place; he must have sunk a good chunk of his TV spoils into it, and perhaps more importantly everyone there seemed to share his entheusiasm. I'm sure his legacy will live on for a long while yet.

really liked the show and even the terrible film he was in.

well he's gone to the big croc pond in the sky.

I'm waiting for someone to produce a photoshopped image of him wrestling with a Gerry Anderson puppet.

"Look at this little critter, she's like a little wooden mermaid with strings."

What about is poor wife and young kids :( ??

I wonder what kind of funeral Steive would have wanted, and what he would have wanted on his toomb stone.

    Andrew :(

    Probably something like:

'Crikey ! That stings a bit...'
  • edited September 2006
I was just reading the same thing. Very unfortunate event. He just got stung in the wrong place.

He jumps on crocodiles backs all his life, and end ends up dying in a very unlikely event. Bonkers.

Is there a right place to be stung?
Like if it had happened along the Devon coastline he'd have been ok?
  • edited September 2006
How about being stung on your hair... Thats the right place.
  • edited September 2006
Steve should have used more sun block to keep out the harmful rays.

Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo is now serving Sting Ray...
It's Expensive, but Steve reckons "It's to die for!"

May be Steve Irwin should have been wearing his Ray Bans!

    truly bad.

The right place to be stung by a stingray is not the chest - apparently it was the barbs that killed him by puncturing his heart, not the venom.

    Poor bugger.

Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Steve Irwin's funeral music has been chosen by his wife - Crocodile Rock, sung by Sting.

I met Steve a few years back when he was helping out with a project I was working on for Chester Zoo. Totally decent bloke, fully committed to what he was trying to achieve. Outside his television persona his in depth knowledge, most of which he actually discovered, was tremendous, he did write the book in a lot of cases. Its a little unnerving at first when he says "go get yourself a tinny, its just behind the taipan venom". Hopefully Terri will carry on with his work.

    With deepest respects

When you're a 'celebrity', doing high risk activities comes naturally - just like climbing on your roof to fix your TV aerial with an enormous emu under your arm.

poop. I really liked him :(

In a recent interview Steve was asked what his favourite TV programme was.

"Thunderbirds", he replied, "But Stingray will always have a special place in my heart."

Yep, very bad news indeed !, although I guess something was gonna happen
sooner or later. He died doing what he loved. A real fooking shame !!!

    RIP !
