Somehow I don't think that's real. How do you tell the individual players apart? And how do you stop them from bumping into each other repeatedly. :)

A multiplayer JSW game was mentioned a while ago.

    Necros.

i'll be gutted if its just a micktake

First up, the bad news :D

The pictures are fakes I'm afraid, there's only one genuine picture in the thread and thats the one I posted that looks like a CPC gone wrong... the good news is, we're pretty much 80% of the way through the JSW II map in the room building stakes and just about to start on our own additions - so yes, the game is real.

It started as a crap joke between Scott and me for a Rodent article, Smila got a bee in his bonnet over the idea - asked Stu Ovine would he/could he code it - Stu said yay...within a few hours we had a room editor each and a day or so later the network test to make sure everything in the backend would work.

Hows it going to work? Bugger knows, you'd have to ask Smila and Stu that - I'm just the room building muppet and one of the daft gits with the original idea.

I gather they're putting in a couple of different modes, but I think the main game is going to be a co-op JSW with as many players as can connect at once without the whole thing crumbling. So far, we've only done the stress tests on the network side - apparantly by this time next week we'll have the main game testbed to run through and see how that stands up.

Its just a daft and silly idea, it may/may not work well - it may go totally tits, but whatever happens at least we'll have given it a shot :-)

Hope that reassures you a bit.

    thats great news .

i would just make players none colideable with each other, having players colide would ruin the room layouts.

I would pay money for this thing

as the oddbobster states its not a micktake .

we are about 80% through the jsw2 rooms , then adding our own.
got lots of idea's for game modes .

stu (programer) is off having a chill at the moment but iam sure this wont take him long

this sounds ace if its done right (i'm not saying it won't be, I expect it will be!).

Will it be single screen multiplayer or kinda like split-screen?

Would be great to have an original layout to play in, then an option for the super-version with all new rooms.

Keep it up, I'm surprised noones heard of this before this thread, sounds ideal for a revamping! :)

    good luck!

Sounds promising. I don't usually bother with remakes but might make an exception for this.

I seem to recall having suggested something along these lines long ago, though as a Spectrum game rather than a remake. Unfortunately, it would need a special emulator to deal with the internet side of things.

RealSpectrum supports this, but it's limited to 2 players. I'd prefer to write something which supports more players, while perhaps allowing more sadistic individuals to edit the rooms while others are in them.

does realspec work properly, I've never been able to get it to work beyond the two emulators connecting, maybe I have been doing it wrong
  • edited September 2006
actually yeah I was thinking of it more along the lines of a spectrum, I mean, imagine having a mate or two over and playing a multiplayer JSW??? would be awesome!

    here's an actual game shot

    http://www.retroremakes.com/forum2/attachment.php?attachmentid=3809&d=1158879261

just got slopes pickups and baddys to get working.
all the orig rooms are in and about 50 new ones have been added so far.

would it not be possible to link a real speccy to a PC and use the pc as a kind of internet gateway - It would mean writing rough kind of game server for the PC, but it should be possible.

All you need then is a multiplayer Speccy game. :)

Looks interesting! Looking forward to seeing a final result.

    WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it would be nice, if YOU-Willy is red, and everyother-Willies are white as they should be, if every Willy had their own colour, I think it would ruin whole thing, as Willy was white. (....game includes very rich white mansion owner bastard... Was Jet Set Willy a racist game??;))

    http://www.retroremakes.com/forum2/attachment.php?attachmentid=3809&d=1158879261
this links version looks great!! So, IS THIS REALLY GOING TO BE REAL?!?!!

    (hopefully it is!!)

By the way... one problem came to my mind immediately... or maybe it is not problem...?

Anyway, when there are SO MANY rich hangover bastards collecting empty alcohol bottles and glasses around the mansion, I guess soon there are nothing to collect.... First visitors can soon collect most of the rubbish away....

Or is it so... that when first thirty Wanna-be-Willies collect all, last comers can go straight to bed with Maria... while other idiots are still looking after some glasses.... not knowing others have cleared house ages ago...

Or should there randomly appear more "collectables" around the house every now and then? I think it would be realistic enough that way, as it is sure, that after HUGE parties when you are tidying the house ALONE, you surely cannot notice EVERY wine bottle in EVERY room at once....

    quick update for yas -
we got all the orig rooms and 90% of the new rooms done,
all the pickups and baddys are placed,
ropes an lifts are in and working ,
all we need todo now is get some game types in then have a good playtest and all being well it should be finished fairly soon

    and for an encore...?

Skool-Daze multiplayer!! dont get your phone stolen or else you can only send messages to people in the same class!

for some reason i can see it working quite well.

muggins here would playtest for you if needed. providing i'm free at the right times. :D

does sound very promising this :)

Ello ello ello, Merry Christmas everyone - its done and ready.

    Follow the yellow brick link.

Game features that made it into the final version:

"Race To" games, first to a given location.
"Timed Games" whoever gets the most objects within a certain amount of time
"Willy games" including my favourite, Tag, and collect the golden Willy
"Team games" - team variants on Race To, Timed and of course, the deathmatch staple "Capture The Flag".

Its not a direct conversion of JSW so you'll notice a few differences (the "safe" height to drop is higher for one thing, just to add a bit of tactical difference to the tag game) and some of the rooms are adjusted/amended - plus there's 250+ rooms in this version ;)

You'll need a DirectX 8 compatible machine as the netplay code uses DX and rather obviously, an internet connection if you want to play with other people. The single player is just a sandbox mode as there's already a full, decent and proper JSW remake out - but its useful for finding your way round and discovering the new rooms.

    Hope you enjoy.

    Does it connect instantaneously?

I see that port 7002 needs to be unblocked but what if you're behind a router? Which port needs forwarding? It just hangs for me and I have to shut it down with TM although I've tried a fair few ports :(

me and woody had a quick go earlier seemed ok
i entered his ip and we were both off lol

bit cheating witht he collect the objects option, woody went straight for the tables down the bottom and collected em all in double quick time

Incoming 7002 should do the trick from behind a router. I'm one of those odd few without one, but I'm assured by those who do that it *should* work. In principle at least.

@Mel, head off to the cold store, go up the rope then right, then down and follow the route round. I think anything less than the 50 makes for a really quick game on the collect-em-up rounds, but that route should see you right if you can make it through the jumps fine ;)

lol i lasted about 2 seconds
went to the banyon tree, turned round went through the "easy" chapel section and died about 5 times
