Unlisted MIAs

edited December 2006 in MIA/STP/SDP
I'm working through back issues of Sinclair User from 1982. As mentioned (in my first ever WOS post!) there are a lot of pretty obscure games which are advertised, mainly in the classified ads section, which are not listed in WOS.

Is anybody interested in these? If so, who do I send details of them to and how much info is required?

You could list the games here and where you found the info.

And yes the preservation team is interested in that info (or at least they should be ;-) )

Yes, indeed, I've also been scowering the Your Computer scans to identify currently unlisted MIA. I think Martijn still has a bunch of reports I sent in to process.

When reporting, please provide links to the source of your finding, or if you have unlisted software a photo (or better an inlay scan) will help us a lot.
Martijn is reluctant to add to the MIA list without good evidence to support the claim, which is fair enough.

Thank you very much, I look forward to seeing your findings.

    Best wishes

Yep, all reports (yours and Juan's) have been set aside so I won't forget them. If the weekend allows, I plan to get all of those sorted on one go.

    Keep 'em coming!

As an aside, Jim "Battle Bunny" Grimwood is working on a complete advertisement database, by checking each and every magazine he also catalogued in the fabulous SPOT database (the UK magazine references in Infoseek). You might want to check with him, or you might end up both doing the same thing.

Well, there goes my secret identity. Now I'm going to have give up my secret life as a crime-fighting mystery man.

The SPOT index advertisements extension will cover Spectrum-related "promotional" entries; eg. advertisements, competitions, special offers. In addition to the 561 issues currently covered in the main index, I've recently acquired another 114 issues to index (mostly Popular Computing Weekly - thanks, Dave), so the advertisements extension is going to take a while. I plan to send an initial set of data to WoS when I've finished reviewing the first box (of nine) of mags (mostly sundry multi-format weeklies), hopefully before the end of January. My SUs happen to be in boxes 2 & 3, so they'd be done in the spring sometime, if all goes to plan.

By the way, the better comic shops sell magazine storage boxes & bags, which is a good way to store them if they're being used regularly for reference; as the mags can be stacked vertically so it's much easier to flick through to find an issue; and the bags reduce wear & tear when retrieving & replacing mags. Long comic storage boxes are handy for storing cassettes, as 4 layers of 6 rows of 11 cassettes (264) fit neatly in one box. (Although it's a bit exasperating getting a cassette from the bottom layer.) I get my boxes & bags from Ace Comics in Colchester.

That doesn't seem to duplicate what I'm planning to to do, so I'll post the first set of MIAs soon. Just at a rough estimate there's probably about 30 or so MIAs alone in Sinclair User from 1982.

Here's the first few from issue five of Sinclair User:

ZX Spectrum Character Programmer by ZED X TRA ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/SinclairUser/Issue005/Pages/SinclairUser00500022.jpg

Learn With Your Sinclair Micro-Computer by Frank Orville/Mr P.L. Donovan ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/SinclairUser/Issue005/Pages/SinclairUser00500064.jpg

At Last and Sailing by Micro Wares ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/SinclairUser/Issue005/Pages/SinclairUser00500066.jpg

The latter two games were first advertised in issue four of SU but the company called itself EEBEE Computer Wares rather than Micro Wares ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/SinclairUser/Issue004/Pages/SinclairUser00400066.jpg
