25.anniversary party?

edited February 2007 in Sinclair Miscellaneous
on April 2007, spectrum will be 25 years old.
Will there be a quarter century party for our beloved spectrum?
It's good to plan ahead, I wanted to remind all good demo, game, app coders.
I'm sure commodore scene planning something big, why won't we do something interesting too?

oops.. ok it's a double post, but an important one :)

This is a great idea, it should be held in a pub so everyone can get drunk!

I'll be launching a Spectrum SE coding competition to mark the 25th anniversary.

Sounding like a good idea to me :) I`ve kept meaning to ask if the Timex multicolour mode is the same as SAM`s Mode 2, data format wise? Perhaps the two machine`s development and community wise could help each other with both graphics and code... I get the impression that you`d love more support not just for the Timex, but for this improved speccy type mode...

Definately, good idea :) Be great if the AY rider`s could be there, I seem to remember from the scrolly of their You are Adult demo that they all teamed up somewhere in Europe, so perhaps if Gasman, Yerz etc etc were begged...

    edit...

Arda, oops, just reread Title of Topic and your post... a great idea :D

This coming February (I can't remember the exact date offhand), I'll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of me getting my first Spectrum. I plan on staying at home all day and playing games non-stop. I might organise a Spectrum party so if anyone is in Kilkenny around that time, let me know in advance so we can meet up followed by a trip to the pub. :)

    Anyone interested?

Well, you know me - I'll show up to anything, if anything gets organised (within reason... I won't cross the Atlantic to meet two people in a pub. Unless they're really interesting people). As for the others, I suspect that you may have to have a whip round to pay their travel costs. Incidentally, the AY Riders have never actually met up in their entirety... in fact, I believe I'm the only one to have met every other member at some time or other.

Alternatively, you could declare that the Official Spectrum 25th Birthday Party will happen in Trencin, Slovakia on 16-18 March and be more or less assured of having at least three of us turn up...

I have no argument with the date being St. Georges day:

"At a press conference at the Churchill Hotel on Friday the 23rd of April 1982, Sir Clive Sinclair revealed to the world his new microcomputer the ZX Spectrum."

Geoff Wearmouth puts forward a good argument for 23 April being "Speccy Day" in this thread

While browsing the BBC website today I had the idea of contacting Click Online and suggesting this might make a good piece for the programme. It would be great to see interviews with one or two of those who were involved with the machine's launch.

There's a feedback form here if anyone's interested:

Excellent! Perhaps if I could get 'The Curse of The Red Dragon' finished on time, it could be released to celebrate 2 things! :) All my college work will be finished in a few weeks, and I hope to get a demo released by the end of this month, so I should be able to meet this target.

Wow, in our country April 23 is very special day dedicated to Children. It's a national holiday also. Nice coincidence.

"23 rd April has become the date of an official festival since first anniversary of foundation of the Grand National Assembly and has been mentioned as ?National Festival?, ?Soverignty Festival?. After that it was congratulated as the ?Week of Children? in 1929 and called as National Soverignty and Children?s Festival by a special law."

Good idea, I dropped them this message ...

"I have been a computer user for over 20 years, and like many I started with a ZX Spectrum home computer in the early 1980s. April 2007 marks 25 years since the launch of the ZX Spectrum in the UK. Will Click be marking this anniversay with a special feature celebrating 25 years of the ZX Spectrum?"

I received an email from Click's editor today, and he seemed to think it was a great idea.

Watch out for the piece in April!
