Tee shirts, thongs and baseball caps

edited December 2006 in Chit chat
While I have been working on the Preservation Team shop updates I have been doing a bit of research into the possability of offering things like Tee Shirts, Polo Shirts and similar (you have seen the idea on loads of sites) for sale.

For obvious reasons I couldn't offer anything with a trademarked logo but I was thinking about something along the lines of a new "Spec-Chum" logo. A sort of unofficial users club logo.

Question's

Would anybody be interested in buying this sort of merchandise?

Any better ideas for a logo theme?

How much would you be willing to pay for :-

A Tee Shirt
A Polo Shirt
A Coffee mug
A mouse Mat

These are only examples but would give me an idea of if its viable to set up.

The MAME project which is much bigger than WOS, did a similar thing, they did sell a few very quickly but didnt sell out quickly, apart from the big sizes. I am a proud owner of 2 MAME T Shirts, excellent quality Rubber like transfers double sided. Full on quality. Again MAME is sooooo much bigger than ZX/WOS they had trouble to sell the lot and they didnt do a big batch at all.

So I would bet you would be holding onto stock for quite some time, unless you punt them on ebay aggressively. My 2 penny worth...

Because of the way I am thinking of doing this I wouldn't have to carry stock therefore this couldn't happen and time to sell would also be irrelevent.

You thinking Pennypress or whatever the name of it is?

I'd probably go for a mug, cap and/or t-shirt. Would be willing to spend between 5$-15$ (US)

I think your talking about "CafePress" and its not them but a similar operation.

Sounds like spreadshirt. A good operation indeed, much better than Cafepress, IMO. I'm signed up with an account and have designed a handful of shirts. The designer they use is rather lovely.

The base prices are good too, but it kinda depends what sort of designs you're thinking about. For a half-decent shirt with a good quality (flock) print I'd be willing to pay up to 15 quid. Only problem is that flock print costs extra, and requires a different type of design (vector graphics, with certain restrictions). That said, you can print it onto non-white/grey shirts which for most ZX users I guess will be a bonus.
For a white/grey shirt with a multi-colour print... I'd pay maybe 12 quid. Plus postage.

As for the thong... I find they chafe.

Chalk me dsown for a coffee mug. Depending on quality, 3 - 5 quid would be in order there.
    Oh bugger!<br>

Hehe, if I'm right then a mug will be about 9 quid without the team making any profit (which I guess is what this is partly about - raising funds for a worthy cause).

    I'd buy a T-Shirt and possibly a Hoodie. T-shirt I'd pay £7-10 and Hoddie £15-25 depending on quality.

I was thinking of making my own ZX Spectrum T-Shirt and using an actual rubber keyboard to poke though holes cut in the fabric.

id probably spend 15 quid on a cap. depending on the logo i guess. if it just said 'spec-chum' i might look like i have gotten lost from a care in the community outing.

a fiver for a mug, or even a bit more.

would certainly have no problem paying a bit more than the cost value if the profit is going to a worthy cause. (would need a signed statement saying you aren't gonna spend the cash on sweeties or smack :) )

I'd be interested in a thong if it was previously worn and sealed in a zip lock bag.

No offence to ADJB, but I've met him and I certainly wouldn't want a thong that he's worn.

To be fair neither would I.
