Yes, its actually a bit of a shame that Catherine Tate wont be joining the Doctor for the new series, as she was much better than how I envisaged her. Not sure about the human-esq face of the Racknost(?) spider though.
A good episode, very much a Douglas Adams begining, reminded me of City of Death.
Same here - the Daedra spider in Oblivion. Its Doctor Who so it goes without saying that I loved the xmas spech. I was also dying to see the Children in Need Doctor Who concert on BBCi (being a fan of the recently released soundtrack CD), and it was ace!

:):):)
I really enjoyed the concert too... I wanted to go but my other half put his foot down and said I'd be going on my own.... then the tickets sold out... So I was quite happy to tie up most of Christmas Day TV with Doctor Who! :D
Enjoyed the christmas special too... OH look, the Daleks are back in series three! what a suprise... Was hopeing there would be a glimpse of the re-designed Ice Warriors in the 'next series' bit at the end. ho hum.
I thought RTD said reviving the Ice Warriors was too expensive - if it's true, then it'll be great. A friend of mine reckons he saw a Cyberman chest unit in the preview..
I watched the Christmas special as I really couldn't be arsed to do anything else (not even turn the telly over!). This was the firstof the "new"Dr Who's that I've watched, so I knew little about the personal history of the "new" doctor.
I really quite enjoyed it to be honest, even though Cathrine Tate really does my head in! But, the thing that really bothered me was that any time the Doctor had a problem of any sorts, he got out his "sonic screwdriver" that seemed to be the answere to almost everything. I remember a time when the doctor had to improvise things to do what that screwdriver thing did, and in some cases, that was the whole basis of the episode. I just seamed to me that the writhers couldn't be bothered to think of a long winded plot, and so gave him this screwdriver to shorten the plots down to one episode each.
I think that this episode really could have benifitted from a couple of cliffhangers, and havr gone on for bit longer.

You sure your other half isn't related in some way to my Amy? I wanted to go to the concert (and so did Emma) but Amy put her foot down. But she was ill at the time so it was understandable and we did need her to drive.
I reckon they're hinting at the return of the Master but this time played by Mark Gatiss.
Oh joy, the 2nd David Tennant X-Mas episode...American isn't getting THAT on time, i mean on the 22nd, Sci-Fi Channel put "Army Of Ghosts" and "Doomsday" back to back (and the acting in that is making me think that Tennant is one of the best Doctors since at least McCoy)
Isn't The Master still locked inside the Tardis from the Paul McGann episode? If he is to return, I hope he doesn't just pop up from behind a pillar in full beard and regalia, pointing his tissue-compression-eliminator at David Tennant. First of all I want to see him slide out o the Time Rotor and take over a new body. And hopefully find out exactly how he became a snake monster in the first place.
Im all for Ice warriors or Zygons... Or Tractators, or Vervoids, or, joy of joys... The Wirrn!

I though Sylvester McCoy/Paul McGann was returning the Master to Galifrey for trial (or was it execution?). But according to Christopher Eccleston, Galifrey has been destroyed. I think there is a whole load of stuff we haven't been told between McGann and Eccleston.

In the movie, the Doctor had the Master exterminated by the Daleks on Skaro ... then was returning to Gallifrey.... yes, bit silly but that was to get a reference in to the Daleks! You really don't want to read just how much the Americans were going to mess up Dr Who if they did do a new series back in the mid 90's.... so much stuff had changed in their series brief.
The 'Time War' as mentioned in the new series happens in the Paul McGann era, with results in him regenerating to Eccleston... For continuity's sake, it should really be further explained by Russell T Davis.
Big Finish, who are producing more audio dramas with Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor, don't have the rights to anything to do with the 'new' series, so the Time War won't be explained there....

I don't see any strong evidence of that in the show, there's just that casual implication of a recent regeneration in 'Rose' I think. But I think that 'Parting of the Ways' has much more weight if it's Eccleston that killed the Time Lords and Daleks, rather than McGann.

reminded me of Oblivion and DOOM
Hopefully next year we'll finally have a normal Xmas Special: no new Doctor, no lack of regular companion.

It ALL SEEMED A LITTLE BUT RUSHED!

Didnt he get smashed up at the bottom of a cliff after being chased by pitchfork wielding farmers.
Yup. but when has something like that stopped them ;)
Not quite, unless said farmers were in drag and formed a secret cult called the Sisterhood of Karn.

I don't think *anything* should be done for continuity's sake alone. We know all that we need to of the Time War.
