Another new tool

edited December 2006 in Sinclair Miscellaneous
So you downloaded one or more files off the WoS archive, and for the life of you, you can't remember what it is or what it goes with?

Identifile comes to your rescue!

I hope.

Damn! When I read the "Another new tool" topic title, I thought you meant that another comical troll had surfaced, like Gamestage or Mr Kizza ("tool" in England is slang for the male organ). It's been too long without a really funny thread where someone is obviously wrong but won't admit it.

[Serious bit] It's good to see another addition to the WOS functionality - I really don't know where you find the time or energy.

One thing you really should consider adding is a feature whereby you pay us posters for every post we make. How about it? [/Serious bit]

Anything to escape the family for a bit...
This was an easy tool to build, though. Took under an hour (so is likely full of bugs), and was made on specific request from our Mr. Sweeney!

I can well imagine one will want to recuperate at least some of his life savings after Christmas!
I'm not sure what amount to pick, though, what with the... ehrm... "varying degrees of posting quality" we see. Would it be okay if I just opened my account for all of you and you draw the amount you feel entitled to for each post?

    That'll do nicely!

Would be nice but Amy'd make me pay it back straight away!

How can a Spectrum program be full of bugs? Surely you're thinking of the C64?

Oh no! Martijn's starting writing Spam! :-)

What next? Mel selling Viagra? ZX Beccy's webcam? Andrew Owen offering me shares in his highly profitable Spectrum SE multi-national business?

I'd be wary of Mel's own brand of Viagra ewgf.. I hear it can cause severe headaches and is not known to do the job it is meant to do.

I tried ZX Beccy's webcam but all she did was point it at the TV screen showing the highlights of Captain Jack Harkness..

if I write a program that checks every file in my my speccy archive to create a database, would that be ok for you? I mean, checking 300-400 files in a row, would I got banned after a while?

do you encourage/discourage this kind of program?

Possibly, yes, exactly like with any resource on WoS.

Actually, I'm intregued to learn why anyone would want to do that.
I'm probably overlooking a useful utilisation of this tool. Care to shed some light?
