If an Atari can do it...

edited March 2007 in Development
Ok, after the "If a C64 can do it" thread I started checking out a few demos on other 8 bits and I just had to pass this one on. It's for the Atari and requires 320K but it's pretty cool. Some of the others on that site are also pretty impressive.

Sorry, couldn't find it on youtube.

This is interesting. It reminds me of a basic program I wrote a while back to help me come up with new colors by mixing paper and ink with patterns. I originally did it to mimic Sam Coupe colors but I also used it to try and get close to Atari 2600 (I'm aware that demo is Atari 8-bit) colors. I also did a similar thing for C64 colors.

I downloaded several Atari 8-bit emulators: Xformer2000, Atari++, etc. I now know how to load .atr disk images, but I have no idea how to run them (I've never used Atari computers).

There should be some sort of AtariDOS manual linked from the Wiki:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_DOS

Make sure you have the emulator configured for enough RAM.

Its crap, there isn't even a reset demo!

Have to say though, that is very impressive when you consider the hardware being used. Is there anything on the spectrum that gets close to this??

Hmmm, I'm reading it, but I still don't understand how to run the .atr file... :|

What kind of Atari would this be for? I`ll YouTube it if I can get it working, I had an emulator for the 2600, one for 5200, and another for 7800 last year, and two of the emulator`s were a bugger to load anything.

Is this for one of the computer models, rather than consoley?

The other demo, by the same guy, looks quite good too.

It's for the 8 bit computers... probably a 130XE with added RAM.

Cheers... I knew it must be for the 5200, or 7800 equivalents, but don`t know nowt about the computer models, so didn`t know what to look for , I`ll go get an emulator ;)

... does look a nice demo, they got good colours the Atari`s from the look of it !

Well video`s up of it, blue me away, and I`m absolutely LOVEloveLOVE the tune, I`m a fan of the soundchip already, and that`s half the battle for me with a demo... really impressed :)

    Link for demo at :-

    emulator at :-

Very bottom right of page, little text for download link, plus instructions there :)

basically, put emulator where you want it, put Rom images in, selct them for the OS-B (don`t get one for A), XL/XE, 5200 and lower down for Basic Rom, reset (Shift + F5)

Select machine type XL/XE, Memory Size 320 (I chose Compy),
Attach disk 1 into drive 1,
and reset, need to insert disk 2 halfway thru, think it`s Alt and B... erm
