Can anybody name this book please?
I used to subscribe to one of those Book of the Month book clubs where you pick a book to buy every month, and one month the featured book was a novel in which the premise/plotline was the following:
****************************************
A world famous hitman is told by a doctor that he has cancer/aids/some other terrible disease, and has a very short time to live.
Shaken by the prospect of his imminent death, he puts a post up on the internet, inviting a crowd of the world's deadliest assassins to come get him, telling them when and where he'll be at midnight(?) one night. He gets his weapons ready and prepares to go out with a bang.
Five minutes before midnight, he gets a phone call. Answering it, he discovers it's the hospital on the line.
His test results were mixed up. It turns out he hasn't got a deadly disease after all...
****************************************
This could have been roughly 10-15 years ago.
Can anybody name this novel?
I can't remember the title, but the plot was one of the best I've ever come across and I'd quite like to get hold of a copy now and give it a read.
Any help in identifying the tome in question would be much appreciated!
:)
