Now, returning to my initial question in this thread :)

Here is snapshot http://zx.logtech.ru/Nathair.sna from the Nathair's lair.
As you can see, the invisibility disappears right after you take cauldron, no matter if you choose torc or not. So if someone have ideas - would be nice to check them... As really, not good that whole torc diggings is not usable for this quest at all...

    Grab it here - http://zx.logtech.ru/Tir Na Nog - Bugfixed.zip

Back in the days (I made it in 2011 or 2010 I believe) I completed the game, so this fix do not affect gameplay in any new bugs or anything like that.

    Thank you!

Carrying the cauldron disables the torc's power of invisibility and so the torc is of no use in passing Nathair while carrying the cauldron. It's possible to drop the cauldron very close to Nathair, so that one step would get past it, then go back to the side passage while invisible and then out again so that Nathair is sleeping again, go to the cauldron and press Walk and Pickup together, but it doesn't help. [strike]As Gargoyle's hint sheet for the game says to use the torc to get the cauldron then it seems likely that the disabling of the invisibility power by the cauldron is a program bug, as if you've got the torc the daisy is still needed, and if you've got the daisy you don't need the torc.[/strike]

It's just occurred to me that playing the game without foreknowledge of the location of anything, then the torc is of use as it enables you to find the location of the cauldron. Having found it, and found that it disables the torc's power, and finding that there's another exit with a locked door, then you're obliged to find the key for it to actually be able to take the cauldron, so with that understanding then it's not a bug at all and finding the torc is of some use.

Well, IMO quite feeble explanation. Yes, it came to my mind too, but hey - finding a torc is a LOT MORE complex rather than just finding a daisy and open a door with it. It is more easy to give a stone to Cnos Suil, get "The backdoor is me" and try to find a door opened with daisy, rather than get 4 items to standing stone, discover that WNENE7, and dig in right place and after reunite torc parts, so also need to find other one... VERY LONG path.

And when I played it back in the days, I can tell, that I first found a door, and only after I opened it I even digged out that torc (actually I even solved the game without knowing about that torc thing)... So it is really questionable, if there is any sense in that torc at all...

Actually I even checked the code now and it is not a bug for sure, it is a precoded behaviour. You cannot get pass Nathair with torc (at least as is), there is a special check for attribute which only cauldron have, and if you have it - Nathair will kill you, no matter have you torc or not.

So only wondering, if anyone have ideas to check, how to pass Nathair without using back door. Maybe anywhere was a mention of it?

I always used to use the Tir Na Nog map from the inside of the Rebound re-issue inlay.

I can't find it in the archive though, maybe it hasn't been uploaded yet.
(I'm pretty sure the other Gargoyle/Rebound re-issues had maps, but I can't find these either)

    I've just uploaded a picture here: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/newuploads/tt8nf.jpg

    tt8nf.jpg

This is the only Rebound re-release with a map, a better scan still needs to be uploaded though.

    Cheers, Neil

That's a black & white copy of Oliver Frey's map of Tir Na Nog from Crash. The colour version is in both the magazines archive and the maps archive.

Gargoyle were gonna remake Tir Na Nog for the PC in the mid-90s. I found an preview with an interview with Greg Follis in an old issue of PC Gamer. It looked really cool but presumably didn't make it out.

I'll scan it and put it up if I can find it

Would be great to see that, never heard of it before. :)

In some way it reminds me of the sequel to Hydrofool but I cannot recall reading anything about anywhere at the time, I wonder if anything came of it, would be interesting to know too. Specifics for that if interested are here
