Fear Of A Blank Planet

edited April 2007 in Chit chat
Has anyone bought it yet? I got it yesterday and it sounds really good (even though I've only listened to it once so far). It's a lot more restrained than Deadwing, although the heavy guitars are still present, especially on Anesthetize (brilliant song - probably the best on the album).

Oh yeah! There are guest appearances by Robert Fripp and Alex Lifeson.

Ehm... that would be "Fear of a Black Planet" by Public Enemy.

I couldn't find the special edition anywhere. All the online music shops had taken it down for some reason. Doesn't matter anyway, as I don't have a 5.1 sound system (yet).

Cracking album though. Anesthetize is an awesome song.

Just found an eBay seller who has been stockpiling the limited edition. He's selling it at €24.99 and has about 12 copies left. If anyone would like a copy, here's the link.

Not sure if anyone heard this, but PT did a session on the Radio 1 Rock Show on Tuesday at midnight (ok, Monday midnight depending on your perspective). I have it on my sky+ box, will probably copy it off at some point.
The tracks played were the middle part of Anesthetize (I think... my album is still in the post so can't check), Halo, and Fear of a Blank Planet.
Sounded good. Even gf recognised the new stuff, and she'd only ever heard it live before :)

They're going to be on an upcoming Radio 6 Rock Show too... this Saturday or next. Already programmed into the Sky+ box :)

    Special Edition arrived today.
A bit annoyed that the DVD is NTSC format, which Amazon.co.uk didn't warn me about. I can still play it fine, it's just annoying.
Will have a listen later. Hmm.

So have you listened to it yet? What's your verdict? :) I've been playing it at least once a day on my mp3 player in work. Can't get enough of it!!! :D

No, but it sounds like that episode of Futurama - Fear of a bot planet.
I stole it off a space ship.

Yeah, 'tis quite good. Not my favourite PT album, but high on the list.
I've a few criticisms of it... for example "Anesthetize" is 3 tracks rolled into one, which works for the first two - the third section I think should have been a song on it's own.
"Way Out of Here" could have done without the thrash guitar, in my opinion... it's ok, but I think it breaks the flow of the song a little? Kinda like the sweary word in Blackfield's "Some Day", which is otherwise the best track on "Blackfield 2"... but I digress.
I was a little disappointed with the DVD, half-expecting there to be something more on there other than the lyrics and credits - perhaps a video or something... but that's not a reflection on the music, just the Special Edition release. And the fact it's an NTSC dvd is annoying, but not tragically so.

Otherwise... great album. Favourite track at the moment is "Sentimental".

As far as playing it... I'm currently alternating between that, "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone" by 'Explosions in the Sky', and I just got "Drums and Guns" by 'Low'.

As an aside, I think Gavin Harrison is a definite influence on the band now... I've been following PT for years, and in the last two albums there's been more experimenting with off-kilter time signatures than in the previous albums. Obviously GH is some kinda mathematician.
