As Martijn's going to be away during the festivities, can people report what they're doing here please, as and when they have something to announce.

    I'll start the ball rolling:

The 1988 chapter of the documentary will be out next week, and could be the best chapter of the lot (that crown currently belongs to the 1986 chapter, IMHO).

Type-Ins update will be issued next week. I may have to pre-pone that though considering Martijn is going away. :)

When is the actual day next week when the anniversary is ?

I'm making my first piece of Spectrum add-on hardware for the anniversary :-) (Actually, the hardware is done, I just need to finish off the ROM code).

Fireworks on YSAC, if I can be arsed.

Otherwise I'll be putting my feet up with a nice mug of Van Houten Hot Chocolate and playing with my Willy (f'nar!)

I'm not telling either ... you'll just have to experience it at the 50th bash! (or next week whichever takes place first in my reality ... temporal uncertainty is a bitch to live with.)

I was going to release a heavily modded Jet Set Willy game in the mini-quest style beforehand the 11th of this month to be precise. But with the trip to florida I overshot my deadline slightly, so maybe I'll release it on the Speccys' B'day instead.

Other than that I'll be cracking a beer open, for each model of the Speccy, for greediness I will also be including pirate models and sinclair compatible machines (that should take me up to about 15+ beers maybe).

I'm also thinking of buying a cheap pair of jeans and some fabric paint the paint the Speccy rainbow stripe up one of the legs, and printing Miner Willy onto a T-Shirt to wear on the day.

Sadly since I'm not in England I won't be playing any games on a real Speccy :(

A lot of fathers stick 25 cigarettes into their children's mouths and order them to smoke them to get them so sick that they kick the habit. This could be the year that dm_boozefreak goes sober, and all thanks to the humble Speccy.

Is there anything this wonder machine can't do? We owe so much...

I dunno if I start early I can get through 25 beers in one day, especially this weak American pish that I'm drinking. I'll get through about 30 of those no probs, of course by then I may have forgotten altogether which Speccy I'm toasting. Then I'll have to start again

So I'll be posting from an internet phone in my local hospital on the 24th, with an intravenus drip on a pole standing next to me.

Seems I was partially correct with my beers comment.
I would consider organising a gathering if it weren't for the fact that I've already organised one ZX party this year. I may be interested if anyone's organising a pubmeet tho'.

There'll be a a few of us meeting up in #speccy and #spin next Monday night, no doubt. I'll be in there, toasting the speccy with a beer or two.

Please feel free to join us.

It's St. George's Day, so I'll be having a pint of Bombardier anyway, but I'll be raising one to the Speccy too.
  • edited April 2007
We could organize a worldwide simul-pint. At xx : xx o'clock GMT everyone raises a toast to the speccy. Then every minute thereafter (setting suitable beeping timer) one ounce, remembering the good times. And you're not allowed to get up from your chair for any reason, including a wee. If you do your teammate will pull out a pocketknife and threaten to cut it off. Strategically placing yourself next to the kitchen sink and using empty cracker bags as wii-container can help out in this regard. Ok, that's maybe not entirely appropriate but a simul-pint, I think that's a fitting event.

Yes, we can do that :)

And everyone would take a photo when toasting at that time exacly. Then submit them to here

I'll be releasing my 5th retro podcast show on Monday April 23rd and it's an anniversary special devoted to music from the 48K ZX Spectrum. More details about the show can be found HERE:

Does anyone know what TIME on the 23rd the Spectrum was released?

I hope to get my game Manic Panic into a playable form (I started it in 1990 and picked it up again recently).

I will be having a beer. Up for a game of JSW Online if anyone is interested.

I like the idea of "a photo of us doing our s**t" (not literally ) on our speccys on that day.

I'm afraid not. Just last week I came across a newspaper archive that gave the first paragraph free and $3 for the full article. There was quite a bit on the ZX Spectrum including a report in the Financial Times 24th April about the launch the previous day. As if to confirm the date, the patents were filed on 22-APR-1984 - any later and they would have been invalid. I can no longer find the search site and forgot how I found it.
Announcements were normally at a press conference in an hotel.

I've pretty much finished the demo of The Curse Of the Red Dragon, and should have it available to download from my site on the big day itself :) I just need to record the audio soundtrack that the player has to listen to at certain points in the game.

I'm also in the process of doing a small series of videoclips that can be loaded into a real speccy!

Just added a few transcriptions from the final CRASH Software Catalogue, including a quick overview of games available for Christmas 1983. http://www.crashonline.org.uk/

(This was the last CRASH catalogue released before its relaunch as a "proper" magazine.)

I will be at work during the day but in the evening I will definitely playing playing loads of games. I may have a beer or two as well but not too many as I don't want to be hungover at work the next day. :)

I assume there's going to be a massive chatroom meet-up happening. I will definitely drop in for that. :)

There'll be some in #speccy for sure. We've been discussing it for a few days now. And probably #spin too. These channels are much busier than the WoS ones.
