Meeting cancelled

Last week I got an e-mail that the meeting for next weekend in Urmond in Holland is cancelled due to lack of people visiting the meeting.

The meeting in Bunnik in March was also cancelled.

I am afraid that it's the beginnning of the end of the dutch meetings.

    I wonder if WoS (and probably other sites) has "taken away" any of the customers as people can "meet" on-line all over the world and share ideas/pics/schematics/projects/etc or if on the other hand perhaps there are less visitors to WoS compared to previous years? (i.e. overall decline)

    We need a new generation of Specchums. If we don't pass on the legacy, who will keep the Speccy alive once we're gone? I'm already teaching everyhting I can to my kids. They're 8-yrs old now, but they're following their dad's footsteps!

    I imagine that Dunny's SpecOS project might entice new blood into the fold. I'd love to give an old laptop to the kids to learn to program BASIC on like I did on the Spectrum, but with more powerful features - especially speed. I need to get some kids first though... :-)

    I got a couple of kids you can have. Swap them for a mint copy of 'make a chip'.

    After an initial "wow", my youngest daughter left her grey +2 to gather dust in the corner of her room. Her mother decided she could have an old PC in her room, and so the Spectrum just came surplus to requirements. What kid nowadays is gonna look twice at a Spectrum when they can have a Playstaion 2, or a "real" PC like dad? What we need are mass marketing skills to make the Speccy "cool" again.

    Anything considered "retro" is currently cool, surely? Just watch telly and you'll see a bundle of rehashed old programs (damn, they revisited Jim'll Fix It the other day). All that's really needed is for Channel 4 or the Beeb to make a program about old computers and everyone will be buying Speccies on ebay, using them for 2 days, then selling them on ebay cheaply again.

    For now, my kids do. I can only hope it's not temporary. They play The Incredibles and X-Men on my pc, they enjoy the 3D graphics and sound, but they also beg me to use the TS/1000!. :lol: They know it's old, they know the PC is a lot better, but they want to use it. I made a program to help them with their homework. I also taught them the skills of recognizing the loading noise. :P Soon they'll be able to differentiate between a screen$, a certain game, the sound of the UDG area, etc. Wish me luck! :grin:
