Viva Full Throttle!

Full Throttle rocks!

I spent an hour playing the Mervyn Estcourt classic yesterday evening - for the first time in several years - and could only managed a paltry 30th position!
And that was on Silverstone.
Shocking!

Still remember FT as the first racing game I saw where if you stopped racing and waited... the opposition bikes lapped you - splendid!

Now a couple of question for our experts...

What ever happened to the author?
Full Throttle 2 - was it really a sequel??
Any of you guys ever won a race in Full Throttle? - lets see an RZX replay of that! :)

Full Throttle fan here! It may be a favourite because it was a game I could actually play quite well. I used to be able to win on every circuit and can still do so now at Silverstone. I expect the other circuits would follow with a bit of practice. I've never worked out how to RZX - not much point as I can't complete much else - but would happily work it out if anyone wants it.

I have used this as an excuse to look at RZX making and have now recorded a win over four circuits at Donnington. I make some basic errors on lap 2 but still sneak the lead on the third lap, cruising home with a 10 second cushion :-)

Let me know if you want this for the RZX archive Daren... or if you want a view of winning on every circuit for Full Throttle. I'd need a few coffee breaks for that...

I won on Donnington by about 14 secs. Once you go into the lead, then that's it. Full Throttle is a great game, and is pretty unique in that you can be in the bottom half of the pack after one lap and still win. That suggests that it's easy, but it certainly isn't. I think it's the best racing game on the Spectrum.

Cool, it'll be worth waiting for the RZX of winning every circuit. Nice one.

Wasn't full throttle the one where you could do a lap and stop near the finish line and watch for the others in the mirrors? Then on there last lap you could just sneak over the finish line in front of them?

Fingers crossed you create a few more. Nice one!
Hope to see them added to the RZX archive soon - I will watch them with more than a little sense of envy... :)

I preferred Speed King 2. Dunno why tho. When I last played it, there wasn't a hellovalot to the game. I need a bit of a re-think on that one.

Talking of Speed KIng 2, maybe one of you could clear something up that's puzzled me for ages...

Speed King was released on other platforms but not the speccy, whereas its 'sequel' only ever appeared on the speccy - why was this? Was it perhaps because Speed King was too blatantly 'inspired' by Full Throttle to be released on the speccy without adjustments?

I did complete the lot, in a mad burst of throttling. But I recorded them as RZX in Emuzwin which produces versions incompatible with SPIN and Spectaculator so they are no use to Daren and virtually no use at all :-(
RZX glory will have to wait now as I became a bit bored of FT by the 10th circuit recording. But I will crank up SPIN one day.
In the meantime tips for Full Throttle

    - Go at full throttle, always
    - Forget the brake exists, slide off the road to slow down
    - Use the very edge of the road on straights. There is a thin line where you can accelerate without ever getting bumped
    - Use the outside route around sharp bends

Hope you go back and give it another blast in the future. :)

Yes the engine noise, and the general feel: there's no getting away from it.

    Magic!
Look forward to viewing these beauties later this evening.

    Are they all victories?

If they are:- this will humbling...
In fact, I will have to stop off at the supermarket and grab some kleenex...

Yes, all 10 are first place wins.

So you can have a cry or a Barclays over them? Or both maybe? :)
