My problem with aliens is that 1) why would they come here in the first place, and 2) how did they cross the vast distances of space...did they take multiple generations to achieve it even if they flew close(ish) to the speed of light.

I haven't a problem with aliens in and of itself, it's just so unlikely that we would meet them...

    Except for Cornish Davey. Hehe.

I'm sceptical tending-towards-disbelieve about the whole UFO thing for various reasons which would take too long to go into. I'm open-minded about the whole "alien contact" thing (there's nothing actually incredible or supernatural about it - it's entirely plausable). So I'd have to say:

    1) Do you really need to ask this question? Why did we go to the moon? Why do we have the SETI project? Why are we so keen to encounter alien life?

2)We know very little about space travel and it's entirely possible that more advanced civilisations have discovered ways of by-passing the light-speed issue. The sort of space travel we can do with our current technology is extremely crude.

You guys never seen Contact with Jodie Foster? They fold time and then punch though. Like a piece of paper folded in half and a pencil pushed though. You don't have to travel from point A to point B you just have to take a short cut and punch though.

What, you are advocating we accept a science fiction film where an experiment takes place and the protagonist experiences something (the wormhole sequence) that she concedes is logically (conceivably) a hoax by Occam's razor, as a viable alternative?

    :-o

Not at all. That was a little tong in cheek. But some scientists do think it's a strong possibility that this is a way of travel (for us) in the future.

It's strange how many shows like Star Trek for example got things right (or nearly right) when predicting some things though. Books, even more so. Inventions, theories and predictions. It's almost as if some of these idea's were spurned on by sci-fi to a certain degree.

Of course sci-fi, unfortunately does not get everything right or we would be surrounded by alien babes with big baps and wearing nothing more than a shiny golden thong and matching bra! Those artists for books in the 50's and 60's had a vivid imagination...

Ah ok. I can't tell 'tongue in cheek' very well on the Internet.
