Yes, and Simon doesn't have internet access to fix it currently either.

Don't worry, we're all missing it!
    Oh bugger!<br>

Well, if anybody knows how to contact Simon, please ask him how big his site is and how much bandwidth it requires. If it's not too much maybe I can loan him some space. I don't have much but there's no way my own site is taking up 100mb and a 1Gb/month bandwidth.

    Hi all,

Just a quick message to let you know what is happening...

I should be back online by 10th October at the latest. Then I'll do what I can to get the website back up and running as soon as possible. Unfortunately, everything is stored on my home PC!

NEVER EVER EVER will I trust BT again for anything. They are bunch of nazi bully boys.

Quick comparison of phone helpline service...

Toucan (Pipex) - Speak to someone within 1 minute. Have done their utmost to help, and keep me informed, though because BT own the network, they have to rely on them to handle the installation.

Virgin Media - Speak to someone within 1 minute - and was really helpful, even though they knew they wern't getting a sale (as we're not in a cable area), did everything they could to help me.

BT - On hold for 2 hours 15 minutes. Extremely unhelpful, tried to bully me into paying ?210 for a service I cancelled within 1 working day until I threatened legal action.

Christ on a bike... I'm gonna get nicked soon. I keep parking up outside peoples houses in the posh streets of the village in the middle of the night, just to pinch some wifi bandwidth from unsecured networks. They'll either think i'm a burglar or a kerb crawler. One way or another, it looks very suspicious - being sat in me car tapping away (on my keyboard) :)

It's quite heartening to know that people are missing the site though :)

    cheers,
    Simon

*gasp* you norty, norty boy :p

If you're not in a cable area then you're screwed like you said. cause you have to use BT one way or another anyway. I feel your pain, living in a village in the countryside is not funny when it comes to internets :(

Don't you have national wireless broadband over there? Or cafes where you can sit down, have a coffee and browse the net for free? :)

National wireless broadband in the U.S. costs about 25GBP per month. I pay 7GBP for my dsl service.

Places in the U.S. where I've used wi-fi for free:

    -Panera bread cafe
    -Staples

-My 3 dumbass neighbors that haven't secured their wifi which I use for downloading so as not to clog up my connection

Other places in the US that commonly have WiFi:
McDonalds, Dairy Queen, several bookstore chains, etc...

I guess McDonalds may not do that in other countries.

People have already been charged in the UK for doing this.

Could you use a dial up connection? Slow but legal. Plenty of pay as you go options.

Some "Subway"s in Glasgow have Wi-fi, I'm guessing they have it in other cities/towns. Can't remember if it's free, or if you just have to buy a "Sub" to use it or whatever...I'm sure it's the latter.

Whoa.. that's just ridiculous. Unfortunately I've had to stop use the free wifi from neighbours because there are now so many (around 5 at last count) that they all interfere with each other and are no longer dependably useable from the couch I view WOS on. Naturally all are routers turned on out of the box with no security enabled and all broadcasting on the same channel -- channel 6. Grrr.

All my neighbours have secured their wireless connections now, so no more leeching for me. Bastards. :(
