Wipe Out by KB Ram

Whilst doing a long-overdue update for Speccy Spoilers, I noticed that one of the latest additions is a game which doesn't appear to be in the archive.

It's called Wipe Out and was written by a KB. Ram in 1987. It's very similar to Batty and it looks like they share some of the same graphics and routines.

Has anyone else heard of this, or have any more info.?

    It's very similar to "Batty", isn't it? Right down to the death effect.

    Interesting, despite much of the game resembling "Batty" it also seems to be taking a big chunk of "Arkanoid" right down to the layout of the levels.

    It's a bit like someone couldn't resolve their love of "Arkanoid" and "Batty" and so decided to combine the two.

    Indeed. So has any specchum heard about this game, and have more info?

    I know a bit about this game, I think I uploaded it one night to WOS. but forgot all about it. I've just had a search round my HD and is the date on the original .z80 19/07/2004 ? if so it was me that uploaded it.

    I taped this tape from someone at college somewhere between 1988-and 1990, He said he got it off the author of Batty. From what I remember it was a pre-production version of Batty, that could not be released due to it being too similar to Arkanoid. Thus he had to change the game to Batty as we know now.

    From My Search I've also got a TZX File.

    Who did write Batty, anyway? One of the great Spectrum mysteries, surely?

    (Assuming "KB Ram" is a pseudonym, anyway)

    Don't know I can't even remember who I got the tape off, just someone at Trent Poly between 1988-91.

    That sounds a very likely tale. I had suspicions it was written by the same chap who wrote "Batty".

    I'm glad they did decide it was too simliar and that something more distinctive was needed. Speccy gaming has only benefited as a result.
