River Raid

edited September 2007 in Games
Oooo just been playing this on the old Girl. What a fantastic game. I remember playing it in the front room of a friends house after school years ago. Good to play it again. I went all warm and fuzzy. It made me jump a few times - with the planes whizzing across from nowhere. I was crap at it on keyboard so I had to find a joystick that works with the +2. Lucky I have a Crruiser (by powerplay) in my box of amiga bits :) Looks like I either need an atari --> spectrum +2 connector or a kempston interface for my speccy so I can fire up the old competition pro 5000 on it.

Did you like River Raid on the Speccy? I thought it was poor compared to the Atari 2600 version which was ace.

Yeah, River Raid certainly wasn't as fluid as the Atari version, but it did the job. The sort of game that you play and play and play, until you realise it isn't going anywhere and pull the plug. I do that at least once or twice a year anyway!

Are those sprites really just UDG's on the speccy, there so small they could be

there's a lot more going on on the Spectrum version, but the 2600's gameplay is much better. I remember my mum used to lean from side to side when flying her plane, perhaps Nintendo we're spying on us.

Never tried the 2600 version, will have to try it. Mrs Cheese leans while playing games as well. No idea why, but it is funny to watch. River Raid does seem to go on and on but it is fun.

Atari version was always the best, then again that was the one i was always used to. Speccy version isnt bad though, very playable

I used to appreciate it on a Colecovision.

Compared to that the Spectrum version was a disappointment.

Ditto Space Shuttle. Atari > Speccy.

Ditto Space Shuttle. Atari > Speccy.

    oh God yes

Yes the Atari 2600 version was best. Shame really when the speccy was capable of so much more.

The game is so boring early on, I played it a couple of months back. Nothing really happens for ages. You have to start on Bridge 30 or whatever just to have something to do. Strangely you run out of fuel faster if you go slow than if you go fast in the game. It was about half hour of blowing up bridges and crappy little sprites that I realised that and lost a life.

I agree. It is not the sort of game I would play again and again. It is good for a 1/2 hour blast then put away for a bit.
