Most people who claim to have the flu just have a bad cold. If your in work/school/wherever...you don't have the flu as flu puts you on your back to weak to move.
People takin off work with the sniffles.../shakes head. In my day we would go to work after having our limb chopped off in a potato peeling accident and think we were lucky to have a job.
I wouldn't mind knowing what the difference is between a chest infection/the flu and possibly bronchitis?
I tend to think that if your lungs are filling up with green phlegm (or yellow if it's not too bad) then it's a chest infection, if it tastes like devil come then it's bad, too many people do say they've got one when it's just a cold though.
Another good sign is pains in the left arm, and your heart doing 200 bmp.
Wait until you get pneumonia, I never experienced anything like it in my life. It does literally knock you off your feet. I've felt so drained and tired, couldn't get out of bed and threw up constantly. I lost 1+1/2 stone in 3 weeks.

Never again...
I'm dreading this winter, my wife gets it about once a year, so there will be 2 or 3 weeks of running around doing everything. One year she was so ill she coughed and the force of it broke one of her ribs.
To be honest I was just really paranoid people would think I'd been beating her (even though I wasn't there when it happened)
I had my first pneumonia in 96. I thought it was just a heavy flu for 5 days. I had no pain anywhere, just lotsa fever. Nasty stuff. I ended up in the hospital with heavy duty antibiotics.
Doesn't seem to be any flu out here yet (Montpelier, Idaho USA). Mind you we are kind of out in the middle of nowhere. Luckily I very rarely even get the sniffles. I did come close to kicking the bucket this year though. I went t bed on a Wednesday night and the next thing I knew I woke up in hospital on Friday morning. Didn't know anything about the time in between. Apparently I woke the wife up with my body shaking all over uncontrollably. After a few minutes she said I sat up on the edge of the bed but I couldn't talk or anything and then I went back in to another seizure. They tell me I had over 20 seizures during that night and never regained consciousness until the next day. It was weird because the next day even when I was conscious and talking I can't remember anything about it. Never had any seizures before in my life either. I think I have the docs here baffled. My mother had 2 or three during her life but never as many as me and not all in a row. Anyway, worst thing about it was the muscle aches afterwards. It felt like I had been pumping iron for 8 hours straight. Took about 2 months for the pains to go away. Not something I want to do again. The only thing they were able to tell me was that I was dehydrated when I came in to hospital. Apart from that they could find no cause. Hasn't happened since though and I am feeling good now. Maybe this is the price I had to pay for hardly ever getting colds or the flu. The whole experience scared the crap out of the wife. As for myself, while it was going on I was either not conscious or I can't remember anyway.
Well, at least it will get you some days off work. It might make some speccy games even more enjoyable as well! Although, to be honest a lot of Speccy games are already trippy enough without it.

Yup. I've had flu once in my life, as a teenage schoolkid. I couldn't speak without coughing so hard I couldn't get my breth back for ages, , I was delirious at times, so delirious I told my dad I wasn't allowed to drink coca-cola, cos I was off sick from school. I couldn;t walk to the doctors, I fell over, even with my arm round my dad, and the doc had to come to me. Felt like shit, for days.

I got it when I was in nursery school at about 4 years old, all I can remember was there was a weird play aparatus outside that was made out of red and black pipes and squares. There was a bit on top where 3 black squares made a layer, I just lay down on it. When the bell went to go back inside I couldn't move, one of the teachers tried to get me to move then the next thing I remember was my ma and gran turning up and me shivering a lot. Vaguely being home on the sofa with a doctor standing over me, and the next couple of weeks or so were a wild ride of coughing, puking, and hallucinations. It nearly killed me I suppose with me getting it so young.
I also heard on average most people only get actual influenza once in their lifetime and they're very unlucky if they get it more than that. Also yes everyone who bitches about getting the flu every year just has a bad cold or a virus of some kind so nya! :p
I had the flu once when i was 14. It was awful, i was off school for about 3 or 4 weeks. What no one told me at the time was that my lungs were filling up with water and i could have drowned..........
I found this out about a year later!
I once had the flu when I was in school and it knocked the stuffing out of me, literally confining me to bed for a good week. The day I felt a bit better to get out of bed and move around, my knees buckled under me and the pain in my legs was something unbearable. Apparently, my leg muscles were so dehydrated and lacking in excercise that they I had to bring them back up to speed with regular water in-take and baby steps, before the pain and the weakness went away completely after 3 days. One of the most miserably experiences ever (after chicken pox)!

But not tomorrow night cos I off to the NEC to see Rush...
i live in hilly place, bring extra batteries for your mobility scooter.
How did the concert go Richard? Good I hope.
Right, this young upstart. I'll sharpen the sythe again, we can bribe Lee/Martijn for the ISP, use that thing on google and find his exact location, and then we go visit yeah?
We know what he looks like, we're bound to find him making some weird porno film with his best mate from work, so he won't be ready to make much of a fight of it. It'll be cool, cos I can make you an honourary DEATH, but you need to bring your own sythe. That machette you have above the fireplace will do, but no, you can't bring the AK47, you may hurt somebody :)

Indeedy, pretty much what I had the past week and a half. :-(
The worst part in my mind are the coughing fits. You cough for so long that you (almost) pass out due to lack of oxygen. The only thing that helps in that regard is sleeping sitting up and medication that removes the cough impulse somewhat.
Thankfully it's all tons better again. I'm even considering going back to work tomorrow. About bloody time, too!

I thought you said it was never personal. :p
I have a list of names and if you're willing to take care of the people contained within, I'd be grateful (but not eternally - maybe for a month or two). :)
