edited November 2007 in Games
It's a great idea this "duel of the games" series. Here another one:

The way of the Exploding Fist vs International Karate.

What dou you think?

The Way Of The Exploding Fist, naturally. However, if you had put it up against Sai Combat, it would have been a far tougher choice. :)

    Necros.

    Fist is much much better.

IK+ is boring and the subgame with the balls becomes a massive chore. also after a while you stop ranking up.

Fist was great but this is one occasion that we'll have to admit the C64 version was better!

I'd have never admitted it at the time however.

In Spectrum terms, Fist is the better game.

If we're talking in general, then IK+ is the best karate game.

I could be wrong here. But isn't IK+ the one with the subgame with balls? The game referred to in this poll is just International Karate. Did this game have balls?! I only really became familiar with IK+ on the Amiga. Which by the way was awesome. Anyway, it's all sounds like a load of balls to me anyway...

    Good on the Amiga, mind.

Exploding Fist! So early, and still with such great graphics and SOUND! On the 48k. Great!

voted for fist, but i did like the way on ik+ you could make the opponents trousers fall down to get a slight advantage

Ok, I am confused here. So is "International Karate" the same game as IK+? I thought International Karate was an older game and didn't have the subgame with the balls. I would have a play of each but I am at work. I used to play IK+ on the Amiga and it had the flying balls and the exploding bombs subgames.

Short-term, IK+ is the better game. But, as the sub-game just gets in the way of things once you've played it for ages, then Fist is the better game.

Two different games. For a start, IK+ had *three* on-screen fighters.

I think the game we are meant to be comparing Fist to in this thread is just International Karate not IK+. I think most people here didn't realize that.

D'oh... god knows why I read it as Fist vs IK+....

    Why? What are we missing?

There doesn't seem to be sub-standard about the gameplay of the Spectrum version. The C64 version has a better soundtrack and more colourful (but blockier) graphics perhaps, but that seems to be about the extent of it.

Maybe it's because IK+ is a lot better than International Karate?

Wasn?t there an extra move and a bonus section in the C64 version? - I might be thinking of another game.

I just remember playing with my mates C64 version and definitely feeling that my Spectrum version was slightly inferior.
