And now, two of the worst Spectrum games ever...

... ONE ON ONE and KUNG-FU MASTER !!!

Which do you think is the worst?

For me, it's very difficult to choose one... I can't :-D

Havent played one on one but Kung Fu Master was very very disappointing to me. In our local town at the bowling alley this was the ONE arcade game back in the 80's in town ! Spent tons on that machine, so when Kung Fu Master was coming out on the Speccy i had to buy it. Talk about disappointing, totally gutted as i sooooo wanted it to be good and try as i might to try to like it it was just terrible. One of the worst arcade conversions for the Speccy along with Jackal, Jailbreak and Nemesis.

  • "U.S. Gold paid for a good review".

Great duel between One On One and Kung Fu Master.

One On One is at least vaguely playable.

I loved the arcade game as a kid (I still do, although now I can at least loop the levels once) and I remember being totally shocked how bad this was.

Time to boot it up again and see if this was just expecting too much or not...

    OMG it's still terrible!!!11!11!one!one11oneeleven

Does anybody know anyone at Retro Gamer that can find out who wrote that and ask them to explain it? Were they not born when Kung Fu Master came out and wrote the above based entirely on the screenshots?? The only thing I can think of is their words were written for the C64 version, which actually has music that sounds like the arcade (rather than whatever it is the Speccy version is supposed to sound like) and graphics which are a tiny bit squashed.

Actually now the more I think about it, the more likely that seems.

  • At least Kung.Fu Master is somehow reminiscent of the coin-op. A mediocre conversion surely, but there is much, much worse around in my opinion (Jackal and Nemesis are OK, and pure gold when confronted with the likes of the horrors linked there).

One On One is just crud.
  • Kung Fu Master on the is at least more playable than One On One, but then I could just favour KFM as I managed to get further on the Spectrum version than the arcade original.
  • That post was meant to start "Kung Fu Master on the Spectrum".
  • I remember playing One on One on a friend's C64 and having a a great time mind you it was a loooong time ago. Hence I remember being excited about getting it on the Spectrum. Boy was I disappointed!

EXACTLY the same here. Playing this game for the first time on the Spectrum was one of the most dissapointing things about speccy it happened to me.

  • Kung Fu Master on the Speccy was a massive pile of dreck. Inexcusable really.
