Apparently Americans can tell that UK TVs are more flickery when they come to Britain (NTSC is 30fps whereas PAL is 25fps), so you can get sensitive to it without even noticing. Cinema is actually only 24fps, which is why "The Sound Of Music" is 7 minutes shorter on TV than it is when you saw it at the local flicks.
Is this true? (I guess I never thought of it, but it sounds interesting.)
I can tell the flickeryness between TVs here and back in Oorope. Seems like the lightbulbs do the same thing too. But then I get used to it after I've been long enough in either place.
Will Chronosoft be releasing the game, I don't do emulators so need the tape :)
Eh? Who are you talking to? If it's me then Chronosoft can release it if they want. I'll make it available free to everyone to download and play - and if people would rather have an official release, on cassette and in a nice case, then that's what will happen also.
And anyway - I'm sure some kind person will convert the .SNA (or whatever) file to a taped copy for you to watch load really slowly. Don't you just love car boot sales?
Very well done, that must have taken a while. I thought Atlantis might get missed but you obviously weren't fooled by the concealed entrance. :)
138 of the 140 screens are accessible in the collect-em-up, the other 2 only come into play when you're carrying a certain item. That means you're missing 7 hidden screens. They're not essential to the collect-em-up, but contain extra lives in the puzzle game.

Yes. There is a strange 'glitch' that occurs when film (24fps) is converted to PAL (50fps) - doubling up doesn't quite work and a 'frame' has to be 'duped'. You'll notice it now and I've just spoilt your viewing pleasures for the rest of your life!

Dont do emulators ? Can understand people having both but simply not doing emulators ? You must be sat next to a coal fire with the 'wireless' on with your penny farthing parked outside ;)
I think the idea of creating 2 ways of playing the game was great, some times you fancy to think and some other days you prefer just jumping without complications :D

That's great, there is nothing (talking about computer stuff :D ) compared to playing games on the real Spectrum.
Thanks! You want to see this bugger (burger) move! Don't let those crappy graphics mislead you! It shifts! Big style! Soopa smooth and soopa fast and soopa doopa crazy! The whole screen animates and pokes you in the eyes!
You just had too, didn't you! Oh no! Not fair! Now I'm going to have to do Cobra II too!
Bugger nutz!
Ha ha be great if you did !
Its a shame some games such as Cobra and Bombjack didnt come out with just new levels though. I would be quite happy with much of the same but just different layouts / platforms etc.
Some guys have already created a level editor for Bombjack which is superb (And Bubble Bobble), think we need a new Cobra !
Nothing to do with Bombjack (even though the coder ripped me off) - Keith (assistant to the main 'Commando' programmer) Burkhill had a go at me because of something I said, online, in an interview. He threatened me with allsorts! Well, Keef, if you are reading this then kiss my arse!

Not far off it it! Outside is a 1960 Matchless 650 motorcycle, I still don't have a DVD player or digital TV either! We do have a modern computer however, a Apple Mac mini with lcd screen and that, however I word process still on a PCW9512 with locoscript so yeah, not much of a fan of technology, just like the old games on the speccy.
Best,
Chris

(He is going to sue me for saying that - arsed!)
Yeah! Let's get some libelling action on WOS! :D
I thought Mr Burkhill's stuff on the Speccy was brilliant. Ghosts 'n' Goblins was a hell of a thing to do on the speccy, with that scroll, and Space Harrier could not have been done any better than it was. I thought it was a really good conversion that played pretty much like a monochrome version of the arcade.

Who was the main programmer on Commando then?
There was no main programmer. In Elite, they ran random number generator on all of the 42KB memory of speccy back in 1982. They tried to run every bytes combination to see if something reasonable will appear. In mid 80's they got fruits of this brilliant idea. That is true story about Commando and Ghost'n'Goblins :D
But to be serious: G'n'G and Commando are really masterpieces. The most stunning thing on it is the incredible big game window. Comparing it with late 80's production when almost every game used backbuffer... well, one was lucky if game used more than half of screen.
Ha! Nigel 'Chuckie Egg' Alderton wrote the Commando code.
Wow! I have new found respect for that man! Honestly, Commando was the first colour + scrolly game that had my jaw hitting the floor when I saw it in action.
What is this about the Bombjack coder ripping you off? C'mon Sir Frobush*, out with the truth!
*I've been meaning to ask - frobush - whatzzit mean?

Well I've had the pleasure of working with Nigel and he is, with out a doubt, a programming genius.

Well that was kind of down to Nigel again - he moved from Ocean to Elite but popped back to say hello sometime later. And mentioned that someone at Elite had stollen my beeper code - the one that used the 'wait for frame lock' time to output clicks - and I mentioned this in an on-line interview in the same breath as Burkhill. And he took offense. And threatened me with allsorts - so much so that I had that section of the interview removed. Burkhill is a genius coder. And I have no ill feelings about the situation. I just find the whole thing funny! Ego. It's a killer!
*I've been meaning to ask - frobush - whatzzit mean?
Erm, good question! It goes back to my school daze and making animated films and collecting Marvel comics and stuff - I passed my art O level with a film. There was a comic strip guy that took the p*ss out of superheroes call the 'Forbush Man' and I spelled it wrong on a film title and it just stuck!
It goes back at least as far back as 1982 - but earlier than this.
I'll YouTube the films again in a bit - I did it once and had to have them removed. Something to do with the BBC!
EDITED for daft spelling mistakes! And if Skarpo didn't quote me then no-one woud be any the wiser! I'd have gotten away with it too if it hadn't been for you pesky kids!

Here I was thinking the whole time it was just one way of misspelling
Wow, I just saw the map of the game, it's huge, probably impossible to complete without pokes or cheatings :D
That map is still missing 9 locations, and as far as I know nobody has found any of them yet. If you stumble upon one be sure to let us know, I'm sure there are others who would like to know where all the extra lives can be found. ;)
Great game jonathan, well done. I've been absorbed for hours when I should have been working.
Finding any of those last 9 locations is beyond me for now, but I am really quite stuck and need a tipshop special from someone.
Playing collect-em-up I have explored all of the ship (as far as so far mapped at least) apart from the screen to the left of Open Sea at the far left of the ship map, collecting 37 eggs. But I can't get onto that screen nor find any other way of exiting the ship... I have tried lining up the fruit machine in the casino just in case it opens something, but still can't find a way off the ship...
Anyone know? Any clues, subtle hints or big obvious pointers welcome!

Got any in-game screenshots of this new Burger one ?

No. It's in a state of flux at the moment (it's not working). But here is a few graphics...

...and if you're gonna do a Cobra II, hows about a Green Beret 7 :p
EDIT: With dogs instead of sheep :p
Sorry couldn't resist it
Sounds like it should be a sequel to Pud Pud. =-)

AFROBUSH
Oh, well ... back to the drawingdesk.

:-)
I like AFROBUSH better! I now wish to be called AFROBUSH.
That is all.
EDIT - I know Burkhill didn't code Bombjack. That isn't what I said.
