Problem with Scanner - Help

I've just used my scanner, Its an Artec (around 7 years old) - I don't use it much, but comes in handy.

I was scanning some old pics for my mum, and all the the pics came out with vertical lines on them:-

I've changed the resolution and the setting etc, and nothing helps

Is it time for a new scanner ?

    Cannon make cheap yet good scanners.

    I have a Cannoscan N670U. Cost me ?40 3 years ago. The picture is sharp, the colour is good and the resolution is really fine. It's so fine that if I do a scan on max resolution an image can be over 750Mb in size.
