Which controller do you use with your emulator(s)?

Pleasantly surprised that my Xbox 360 wired gamepad works in quite a few games via Spectaculator, where Kempston is an option. Never was a fan of purely keyboard controls (Although I do like mouse + keyboard for modern PC shooters). Good solid piece of kit, that 360 pad. Would ahve been great if something like that had been around for the Speccy back in '84!

I agree. The 360 controller is by far one of the best controllers I've used. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to get my wireless controllers to work on my XP PC. Has anyone in here done that? I did download some sort of driver from the MS site that should have done the trick except that it didn't!

A Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Power 3. I remember there was a USB "retro" joystick (same joystick as the C64-in-a-joystick thing), but I don't know where to get one of those.
    I was there, too
An' you know what they said?
Well, some of it was true!

Wow! I didn't know that those things exist!

[EDIT:] I've found the joystick in Sintech, and bought through eBay. Also, I've found some blogs about making an Atari-USB converter. As simple as buying a cheap USB gamepad, open it and rewire the controller to a DB9 plug. So simple and easy that I haven't thought about that (and you can do the same if you want to make an Atari to PS2 converter).

Arjun, is this the one you downloaded?

Worked for my wired 360 pad, although if you have Windows XP fully updated (SP2 and beyond), it should work without having to install that.

Back in the day, I got through three Quickshot 2 joysticks (not very robust!), then bought a Kempston Pro. The Kempston lasted for years (also used with my Amstrad).

Like I say, I never liked having to use the Spectrum keyboard. It was too unresponsive, and easily damaged. I did buy a "proper" keyboard (by Stonechip, IIRC)which fully enclosed the Spectrum, but it conked out after only a few weeks and I got a refund rather than risking another one. I hate having to play Arcadia with the kayboard, lol!

I use this small NES style controller....

Works very well with Spectaculator. (I keep setting Spectaculator to kempston for the joystick but when i load it up again it always defaults to cursor ?)

I seem to have downloaded a different driver than the one you posted. Mine was specifically meant to get wireless controller to work with XP I think. But I'll give the one you posted a go as well. Thanks!

Yes, Speedlink Competition Pro USB joystick! Quite good and sturdy and works under Spectaculator emulator.

By the way - anyone tried this cool gizmo?

Any experiences? I wonder how it performs under Windows emulators!

I just realised I've been talking thru my hat! What I actually was referring to was recharging my wireless controller thru the USB port on my PC, and not playing with it on the PC as I've been misguidedly yakking about (apologies all around)! At my age (30) it's easy to get confused easily I suppose... I can only pity Karingal.... :D

So, to revise my query, does anyone know what drivers I should be using to allow my XP to detect the USB link on my wireless controller so that I can rechardge it thru my PC instead of the Xbox 360 as I'm doing now?

should it not just charge as soon as it's plugged in?!
everything I have that charges off usb doesn't care about drivers, it just plugs into the 5 volts and guzzles the lovely electricity

You mean if I plug it in to a USB port it should recharge anyway? I'm not sure if that's happening as the light on the controller doesn't come on if I plug it in, which I take to mean it's not charging...

    *shrug*
I just know my stuff takes the 5 volts irrespective of whether the pc has the right drivers. my mp3 player for example charges off usb

I always use keyboard in Sinclair joystick configuration for my speccy games.

But for other emulators (like the SNES), I have a cheapo competition pro USB gamepad that I got from work for like a fiver that has EXACTLY the same button layout at the old SNES controllers, Plus two more buttons at the top (which I can use for other emus). Works a treat.

Yes, that one, I guess. I bought it via Sintech shop in eBay. They also sell it in hteir web shop, but it's more expensive that way.

I use various combinations of fingers in conjunction with a rectangular board which contains many small squares (mostly) with symbols printed on them. :)

I don't think I ever used a joystick/joypad on a PC. Keyboard and mouse allow for easier and more responsive movement.

    Necros.
