I hope it's not too bad otherwise I'll be hiking through the tundra to get to work tomorrow night, as my wife is terrified of driving in heavy snow, and I don't have a full drivers license :D

What does that mean? You're only allowed to drive a half a car?

Pretty much...he's married so he only gets to drive the car when she needs taking somewhere.

How the heck did I miss this thread? I check WOS almost every day. Anyway, we get snow here every winter without fail and it is usually around for almost 6 months. Montpelier is 6500 ft above sea level I think so it is bloody cold too! It is a common occurrence for it to get to -30 centigrade and even colder during the night. I have seen snow up to my waist and deeper, especially in drifts. The old timers around here say that the winters have been better in the last 20 years though. They tell stories of being able to walk over the fences between fields without even knowing they are there because the snow is so deep. My wife did say that the first year she was here there was one morning when you couldn't see the car anymore and also when they opened their front door it was just a wall of snow. They had to dig themselves out. I still find the winters enjoyable because it is such a novelty to me to see so much snow. Don't know how long that will last though!

Gee, Montpelier, Idaho...I passed thru Coure D'Alene in Northern Idaho last week..high and very cold yes.
I stole it off a space ship.

Yep, it's a very small town. Snow is about the most interesting thing that happens around here in the winter. Cabin Fever is a common problem...

I just did a 3100 miles greyhound ride..with 2800 of it thru snow. It was real fun.

Jeez I bet you won't do that again. Bus trips are brutal.. every four or so years I do a Vancouver / Calgary bus trip which is only about 800 miles. I always think: you know, it's not so bad only 14 hours or whatever it is, I can take some heavy baggage with me and I'll save $xxx on airfare. Then I do the trip, remember why I vowed never to take a bus again, and vow anew never to take the bus. I always consider abandoning the trip in Kamloops which has an airport. I am into year 2 now so I still remember how awful it was. Especially if you're seated next to a smelly, a fat guy who becomes smelly, or someone who ate a lot of beans. And that happens a lot.

Well, at least I have WOS to keep me from trying to hack up my family members with an axe.

Well with the Tri-states weather reports being useless, we now have about 7 inches of snow and counting, with no sign of it stopping anytime soon. It's been snowing since about 10am yesterday morning and it wasn't supposed to start until after 12 in the afternoon. It's now just after 5am and it's still coming down with no sign of stopping and it was supposed to stop just after midnight.

It's gonna be good fun getting to work tomorrow night :D

Ha! 7 inches is nothing! But I suppose it's a big deal if you're not used to it.

Well it's raining now so it's almost all gone, but I hadn't seen snow like that in England since about 1991. If you want to see big snow in England go to Consett, any time of the year will do, those poor buggers get snow in June

Well, around here when you first saw the snow arrive in November and it is still around in April you really start to get sick of the sight of it. We do get hot summers though so it kind of makes up for it.
  • edited March 2008
Better be hot this year, had some miserable months lately.

If its all doom and gloom and the world will blow up because of the ozone layers we better get some nice summers soon ;)

Give it a few months and people will moan its too hot !
