when I was a kid, there was this arcade game, that was the first one I remember to see that had a weel and a car cockpit where you would sit...

in the game you drove a Kart, and I remember this huge bald guy(your charecter maybe?) always complaining whenever someone passed by him...this must be a game from aroun 86-88...

Sounds like Power Drift to me, by Sega.

Of course, in that game your character depended on when you pressed the start button when choosing your course.

I found that you need a pretty dast machine to play Power Drift on MAME. It was ultra choppy on my old 1.12gig machine. It runs much better now on my dual core pc. You will need a steering wheel though (I dont have one :( ) b ecause it doesn't play at all well with a keyboard/normal joypad/arcade stick! Great game though, I even enjoyed the speccy version!

The original Final Burn emulator (not the CPS2 Final Burn Alpha emulator) plays Power Drift just lovely - full speed 60fps on my old 333mhz AMD machine.

Edit: Ah, here it is: http://www.finalburn.com/fb/shots.html.

Apart from a few graphical probs with an older version of MAME last year I've never had any probs running it at full speed on my wifes computer, which is a typical Dell setup from about 2005.

Could be down to the computer it runs on though as my best mate had a super spec PC he built himself and there were some MAME games that ran perfectly on mine and like shit on his, and vice versa (baring in mind my computer I had back in England was a cheap Pentium II setup with 500MB of Ram and a bog standard Graphics and soundcard). Pissed him off a treat sometimes that my bucket of bolts could run some of the old games at full speed and his Megasupercomputey lagged a bit.
